A New Beginning

Chapter 23

I'm not sure how long I've been crying. I know I cried myself to sleep for a little while, but when I woke up it started all over again. Out of nowhere I hear Regina say my name. "Emma. Emma my love are you ok?"  I sit straight up. I must look like shit. "Gina. How did you get in here?"   "You left your door unlocked sweetheart". "Oh". Is all I say.  "How long have you been laying her crying my love?"   I just shrug. I look at the clock and see it's almost 9pm. "Where is is Henry?"  "He is asleep in his crib. I made Kathryn stay and keep an eye on him so I could come check on you. And I'm glad I did. What's going on in your head right now Emma?"  I shrug again. She sighs and kicks off her shoes and climbs in bed sits next to me and says "So let's talk". "Ok. The party seemed great. I got some nice pictures of Henry smashing the cake on my phone, I'll send them to you".   "Thank you, but I want to know what all this is about".  She says as she wiggles her finger at my face. "I told you I had a stomachache, that's why I came home".  "It's been four hours Emma. If you've been crying this whole time over a stomachache it must be serious then. So let's go to the hospital".  "Damn it Emma please don't shut down, I know Kathryn was a bitch to you. I made her tell me everything she said to you and she had no right to act that way".  "She had every right to say what she did. It just hurts it hear the truth sometimes".  She put her arm around me and said. "It's not the truth anymore, you've worked so hard to move forward, don't let Kat take that away from you, from us".   "I know Regina. I won't. I just needed to get away for a little bit to let this out, but I promise I'm not going anywhere".   "Good I'm glad to hear that my love". She kisses my cheek and puts her head on my shoulder. We sit quietly for a few minutes till we both hear a loud groan from my stomach. "Emma. What the hell was that?" I laugh and say "That was my stomach".  "Oh my god Emma we need to get you to the hospital and get that looked at". We both laugh. "I'm fine. I just haven't eaten much today and my stomach is letting me know it's not happy".  "Well we need to fix that. Let's go back to my house. I have a bunch of leftovers. And I made a surprise for you that you never got to eat".  "You did, what is it?"   "Get dressed and come find out". I jump out of bed and quickly put on my jeans and almost fall over trying to get both legs in at the same time. Regina just laughs at me and slips her shoes back on. When I'm ready we head back to her place. Walking in hand and hand we go into the living room and I see Kathryn sitting watching tv. Regina speaks first. "How was Henry?"  "He was great. I haven't heard a peep". She says holding up the baby monitor. "Good I'm just going to go up and check on him". She kisses me and goes upstairs. Kathryn shuts the tv off and looks at me. "Emma I want to apologize for the way I acted earlier. I was being a bitch. I do respect how hard you've been trying".  "Thank you Kathryn".   She continues on. "Now with that being said. I will still be looking out for Regina and Henry".  "I would expect nothing less. So do you think we could get along for their sake?"   "It may take some time but willing to try if you are".  I smile and nod and hold out my hand for her to shake as a sign of good faith. She takes it with a smile. "Well Henry is out like a light. Did I miss anything?"  "I was just saying goodnight to Emma".  "Would you like to join us for a drink Kat?"  "Thanks Regina but it's been a long day and I'm sure you two want some time together". I smile and we say our goodbyes. After Kat leaves I say "So what's my surprise, what is it?"  Regina laughs and says "I made your favorite chicken broccoli fettuccine Alfredo". "Oh baby, you are turning me on so much right now".  "Oh really, wait till you try it".  "Race ya to the kitchen". And I take off running leaving Regina laughing in the living room.
