Part 1

Nate

Early Friday morning I was very excited as the week was finally drawing to an end. I so badly needed a break from all the highschool drama for a couple of days otherwise known as the weekend. I headed to the bathroom to freshen up and went downstairs to grab breakfast. I poured myself a bowl of cereal with milk and quickly savoured the contents of the bowl hungrily.

" Manners my boy." my mom said wiping her eyes as she was from sleep.

" Don't worry mom it's only for today ." I said wiping my mouth with back of my hand.

What is it with cereal and me ? I thought to myself as I grabbed the dishes and dumped them on the sink.

" What's the hurry child? The breakfast is going to disappear once you reach the school grounds." She said teasing me.

" I have something I need to do once I get to school." I replied hastily.

I kissed my mom goodbye since my dad had already left for work. My mom owned her own law firm around town and my father made sure to work twice hard to match her tempo. What is it with male chauvinism these days? I thought to myself.
Mom and I get to see less of him these days since he got his promotion few weeks ago.
As long as he was always there for me when I needed him, I was not complaining besides there is the 'freedom' to live a little when he isn't around.

Grabbing my car keys and my backpack on my way out, I gently tug at the hem of my button up shirt which happened to have ridden up a bit exposing my bare skin to the cold morning breeze. I removed my blue hoodie from the backpack and put it on.

I hadn't expected the temperature to drop all of a sudden. Opening the door to my BMW I got on the driver's seat and honked impatiently at Ray who happened to live just next-door.

He did not have a car of his own. His parents had wanted to buy him a car on his sixteenth birthday but he refused claiming he wanted to save some cash to buy himself the car of his choice when time is right.

I guess we're all still waiting for the time to be right.

" What is taking him so long today." I asked myself.
Feeling agitated and utterly irritated at his behavior, I decided to text him to find out what he was up to.

I like to do everything in time and right now Ray was ruining that for me.

Turned out he was not up to something after all. Just as I finished texting him and stuffing my phone back in my pocket a mop of blonde   hair appeared across from me which I immediately recognized as Ray.

I could practically tell him out from a group of people. He and I had known each other for a very long time now and I intended it to remain that way.

Something I hadn't noticed was that he looked like he just survived a zombie apocalypse. His hair was dishevelled and his eyes were bloodshot . I suppressed the urge to smack his head as though commanding some sense back to his head. I smiled at the thought.

" Bro, what happened to you? You look like you just met death in person and he decided to give you more time to prepare for the impact." I voiced my thought much to his discomfort.

" Who peed in your cereal today, you are so grumpy like an old man". I pressed laughing at his expense.

" Are you okay? Is everything okay?" I ask now concerned.

" I'm fine." he replied slyly.

" I just overslept today thinking it was Saturday. When the gardener didn't show as he always does that's when it clicked that today is Friday." he said blushing.
I burst out into fit of laughter since I couldn't hold it any longer.
