Luke has been mad at me since yesterday and I don't blame him.
I know how it seems but it's just not easy.
I'm forced to visit my family because I want things to be right between us.
He left in the morning, not even speaking to me.
I guess he's giving me the silent treatment.
i fish out my phone from my pocket so I can call my mom.
Luke is the only person I have right now and I'd hate to lose him over this.
She picks up and I breathe out.
"Morning Ma"
"Cindy, how are you? "
She asks and honestly, I'm drained.
"I'm fine Ma. I want to come there today, will I find you? "
"Of course you will. You don't even have to ask. This is your home"
I can feel she's excited and I wish I shared the Same sentiments.
It's only morning and I'm already having a bad day.
"OK, see you then"
I hang up and immediately type Luke a message.
"I'm going home. I'll come back on Sunday. I love you and I'm doing this for us"
I sigh and Press send.
He doesn't reply but I know he's seen it.
I have cereal for breakfast, after which I pack a small bag.
I take out some notes for The taxi and whatever I might need.
So, I leave.
I take a taxi which drops me at the CBD then go to the taxi rank where I get into a taxi home.
It takes an hour for the taxi to get full and three hours to arrive at home.
I'm exhausted when I get there.
My mom is standing by the fence, talking to makhi. I pass them brief greeting then proceed to the house.
I go to my room, where I put my bag down and throw myself on the bed.
Waking up, I take a bath to refresh.
When I'm done with everything, I go to the lounge where my mom is watching TV with my little sister.
"You Must have been tired. I know the city can be exhausting "
My mom says, looking at me.
"I feel better now. I'm hungry, where's the food? "
"I'll get your plate"
Grace, my little sister says. She's 13.
"So, what got you distressed? I heard you on the phone "
Grace brought my food and I thanked her.
"Just having some problems "
I Know I have to be honest now.
"What problems? "
I look at Grace because I want her to excuse herself and she gets the message.
When she's out of sight, I begin talking.
"I wasn't completely honest over the phone "
I say and my mom switches off the TV.
"I... I'm living with someone. Luke. He's my boyfriend and we've been together for a long time "
"What? "
She asks, with shock in her voice.
"Mama, my relationship with Siya wasn't all milk and honey. It was tough. And I... I fell out of love with him and found a man who treated me how I'm suppose to be treated. I just... I married Siya out of greed "
She gasps and I understand why.
She's shocked by this that she even claps her hands once.
"Haike, angazi. Are you sure you're my daughter? So much evil Cindy? Ha.a . Siya decided to make a woman out of you kodwa you were busy hoeing around. What's gotten into you? "
She is shouting now.
"He's not innocent Ma. Siya hurt me. He cheated on me and even has a baby now"
She laughs but I can tell its not from amusement.
"Are you listening to yourself? You wanted his money! "
I laugh, how dare she make herself better than me.
"The money that fed you. You seem to forget about the large sum of money that got into your bank account every month. You benefited from this too. I'd complain to you about him but you'd tell me to hang on, because he's loaded! "
I'm angry now that it seems I've forgotten she's my mom.
"I'm done with you. I wash my hands shame"
She stands up and leaves me there.
I feel more drained.
I don't even know what she means by that.
