Chapter 37

"They didn't get there fast enough! It's all their damn fault! Roxy's gone, Louis! I couldn't save her!" the Cheshire boy cried into his mate's chest as he rubbed soothing circles onto his back.

What Harry Styles felt in that moment was indescribable. He didn't think any of it was real. His mind had a hard time wrapping itself around everything. All he could do was blame anything and everyone for the mistake that had taken place just a few hours ago in the comfort of his own home.

He hated everything. Anyone that wasn't Roxy, was useless. Anything that couldn't help Roxy, was useless.

He blamed his best mates for not realizing a murderer was in their house and not asking to sleep-over.

He blamed the man, for the obvious reason of putting his girlfriend in the fragile state she was in now.

He blamed Roxy, for not trying.

He blamed himself, for not getting down stairs fast enough.

He blamed the child inside of her, for taking even more out of her.

He blamed the gun for working.

He blamed the world, for being as unfair and as cruel as it was.

He shoved Louis away from him. "Stop it. Nothing's okay. We all know it. Everything's... It's all over."

"Harry, we don't know that. They said Roxy has a chance-"

"Ten out of one hundred is a very slim chance, Louis." He spat at his best friend.

This was not Harry. This was not the Harry Styles Louis had grown to love and know. This was a monster. But the Doncaster lad couldn't bring himself to feel anything other than pity towards his best friend. If it was Eleanor in Roxy's place, Louis didn't know what he would do with himself.

Louis was just about to throw out another positive speech to Harry when the doctor that was assigned to Roxy exited her room. Harry was next to the man in scrubs in a flash with a hopeful expression on his face, desperate for any good news to come his way.

The man breathed in a deep sigh. "I'm deeply sorry to inform you that Roxy Mc' Kartney was not able to be saved. She lost too much blood and the impact from her head hitting the counter caused too much internal bleeding. We can assure you we tried everything in our power to save her."

Despite everything Louis was feeling at that moment, he couldn't help but noticed the changes in Harry's facial features. His eyes grew darker. His lips hung loosely apart. His usually bouncy curls seemed to just droop over his forehead and his face was paler than usual.

His legs grew weak underneath him and Louis rushed to his mate's side, giving him enough support to stay upright. "She's... she's gone." He whispered so softly that Louis had to strain to hear just a glimpse of the sound.

Suddenly, Harry's mind seemed to blank and the curly-haired boy fell limp in the brown-haired lad's arms.

She turned to him and inspected his face for any injuries. Her face was incredibly close to his and she could feel his uneven breathing brush against her flushed cheeks.

"Are you okay?" she asked, trying to ignore the butterflies in her stomach.

"I will be, once I finish what I started." He said with a cheeky grin.

"Wha-"
