School had already been going for 4 months. So it was already Christmas time at school and everyone was finding people for vacations and trips. Carly fully expected not to get asked. She was wrong.

"Carly!" A tap on her shoulder. Chills sent through Carly and she whipped her head around.

"Breanne, oh, it's you," Carly couldn't help but feel disappointed. Even if she had no intent to meet or talk to Noelle, it still felt like something that she wanted to get off her chest and over with.

"Yeah, you sad to see me? Anyways, have you gotten your soulmate yet?" Carly shook her head. She didn't feel like explaining who, what, when or how's. "Well that's too bad, I was wondering if you could come with me to this trip that like a bunch of people are going to. Noelle and Aidan included."

This was stupid, Carly doesn't talk to Breanne all that much. Like said, she keeps to herself. But somehow she took a liking to her all-of-a sudden. "Why me?" She asked honestly. It was a sort of get to the point question.

"Why not?" Another annoying reply that gave no answer in her question what-so-ever. Of course Carly was going to say no. It was in her nature. She couldn't care about anyone else at the school and that was a fact. School hadn't been exciting and was still not exciting even after getting her soulmate. Who was sitting at least 10 feet away. Carly locked her eyes on her. Her short brown hair and quiet presence, it was cute. Except for when she looked back, that was scary. It had been happening all day and Carly didn't even notice. "Listen you don't need to make a decision now, I just would like it if you came." Breanne turned on her heel and walked over to her soulmate, Ryan. They had been soulmates for a while and they dated for 3 years in advance to finding out. They were the definition of perfect.

Carly wanted to say she thought it out, but she didn't. It was an automatic no. Anything like hanging out outside of school was a no. She just didn't have the patience and never would.

"Carly," Carly turned to another, more gentle, voiced person talking to her. Noelle. But no tap. Her essence was pure and quiet and almost angel-like. Pierced by an angel herself. Just standing there. Carly saw all these things but who didn't. She was popular and gorgeous, it was just the rules. "Can we talk?"

Carly was shocked but nervous. That caught her off guard. They decided to talk about it in the hallway rather than the classroom, less people and less noisy. Noelle still hadn't touched Carly once and the tension rose in Carly's throat. She tried to swallow it down. They were halfway down the hall when Noelle slammed her hand against the lockers, right next to Carly's head.

"Touch me," Noelle said with a straight face.

Carly choked on her tension hairball and almost passed away right then and there. What, did she just say?

"Just anywhere I need to know something," Noelle said rushingly. She still had her hand up and she still hadn't layed a hand on Carly. "Jesus, literally anywhere, Carly."

Noelle grew impatient and slammed the lockers again. "Just do it please!" She said, impatiently. Without thinking, Carly grabbed Noelle's wrist. Noelle winced and turned away. She paced around in circles looking worried. "Are you okay?" Carly asked.

"No, I'm not fucking okay how are you??" She questioned. Carly  just shrugged as if she was just as confused. She was, in a way, she accepted the fate of having to watch from a far and that maybe Noelle would be like a comfort character maybe.

"Well, I don't know why you're confused. You're soulmate is Aidan so it's not like it's a big deal," Carly said in a more hushed tone. She realized that she hadn't even told Noelle that she was her soulmate. But Noelle didn't seem surprised.

"So I am your soulmate," Noelle turned her head to glare at Carly. "Are you an idiot? Soulmates are a pretty big deal believe it or not."

"Well, soulmates aren't really my thing so I've been trying to ignore them. I'm not going to try anything with you so you don't need to worry about me ruining your relationship with Aidan," Carly cleared her throat and brushed off her skirt for wrinkles. School uniforms were something Carly had learned to deal with and didn't mind. She transferred after moving in with her sister for a better education. Plus, her sister is a pretty big deal among the staff because of the people she works with for marketing and what not.

"Oh right, that bullshit lie Aidan forced me to tell everyone..." Noelle seemed even angrier than before. But it didn't seem like it was Carly's fault. So far, she had done nothing wrong. But non-the-less, Carly was surprised that Aidan wasn't Noelle's soulmate like Carly originally thought. "Listen, Aidan has no idea who my soulmate is, I lied about my birthday and told him my birthday was in the summer. My name isn't written on his wrist, someone who he hates is written and he doesn't want anyone to know who it is so he's telling everyone it's me. There is a lot going on that you don't know..." Noelle held back tears and swept her hair behind her ears.

"It's best if you stay away, for your own good," The words were said with a sad tone that pierced through Carly's ears. Carly wanted to stay away before but now she wanted anything but. The situation sounded like something that wasn't Carly's business but she couldn't help but want to know and understand more.

Noelle started to turn and walk away. It's best if you stay away, for your own good. The words repeated in Carly's head and her body started to move before her mind had time to comprehend.

Carly grabbed on Noelle's wrist once again, revealing the black words in cursive writing for Carly to see clearly.

Carly Rosales

Her name, written in cursive. It was there and so obvious. Carly did have a soulmate. Just like anybody else, but her soulmate was so distant. She was miles away and unable to reach, too far from Carly's grasp. But right then and there, the grasp was just enough to see Noelle's true emotions.

Noelle turned around crying and snatched her arm away. And the image of Noelle's upset face haunted Carly's very soul for the rest of that week.

"Stay away, Carly,"

Authors note <3

I wish I could draw so I could draw the cover of this book but I can't so that's a bummer. I might change the cover of the book later because I'm indecisive and stuff so haha.

If you couldn't tell, I'm part of the lgbtq+ community and support all and everyone in it. I think I might write a gay love story instead of a lesbian one but also a dystopian which is one of my favorites. Lemme know what you want to see.
