Forever Together

The castle was ours and wedding preparations began. Sofia and Balgay were dead, leaving us worry free to celebrate. I started to bring the decorations to the marquee where they would throw the rice at us, but Aygul grabbed my arm.

"Silly, you think Konur Alp is going to have a plain wedding in the tribe?!?! He is going to have a castle wedding!"

I squealed. Bala and Osman had a wedding in the tribe but I was going to have a wedding in the castle. I ran over to Bala and hugged her hard as a thank you. She seemed to have done everything for this wedding. My dress was made, my food was made, my tent was ready, and the castle preparations were done. I thought there was a week till the wedding but it turns out the wedding is tomorrow.

The next morning my mom woke me up. "Zeynep, don't sleep late on your wedding day !" I smiled and got up. As I put on my dress, I looked closely at it.

It was a heavy dress, flowing back behind me. It was red, as bright as red could be. The top part, from my neck to just below my chest, was full of gold jewels and sparkles. The rest down was a flow-y red with occasional gold gems in flower patterns. My headpiece was the most beautiful. It was gold, with the jewels in the front being red rubies. They were in such a way that it showed the Kayi sign: IYI.

Yusuf came in to tie the red ribbon around my waist. As he was tying it, he said, "Abla, you were literally a random person no one knew existed a few months ago. Now everyone will be cheering for you as you have a huge wedding in the KULUCAHISAR CASTLE, of all places!!! You are marrying the great Konur Alp, the alp of Osman who brought fear to these lands. I am proud of you. May Allah bless your marriage."

"Wow Yusuf, nice speech."

We arrived at the castle, and I breathes in awe. Kayi flags were hanging from each tower, and the courtyard was filled with Turkish decorations for the wedding. Carpets the Hatuns weaved the past year were on the ground, and traditional flowers were planted all over.

The rails of the stairs were threaded with wreaths. On each step of both sides of the stairs were the best friends of Konur. Boran was on the right, and Goktug on the left. A stair down stood Dumrul and Ayaz, and on and on. On the top Konur stood, waiting.

The veil on my head was pulled down, to cover my face. I made my way through the path lines with rose petals and Hatuns. I looked up at Konur and saw him happily smiling. Choosing the steps where Boran Alp stood, I made my way up, until I reached him.

Sheikh Edebali came out from behind and stood between us.

"Konur Alp, descendent of Ilketin Alp, do you take Zeynep Hatun to be your lawfully wedded wife?"

"I do."

"Do you?"

"I do."

"Do you?"

"I do."

I looked up from my veil with a smile. I saw him blush, and look down. I love that shy, soft Konur behind the scary scar. Sheikh Edebali grins between us and continues, "Zeynep Hatun, daughter of Aydin Bey, do you take Konur Alp to be your lawfully wedded husband?"

"I do."

"Do you?"

"I do."

"Do you?"

I looked back up into his eyes. I took a deep breath and smiled. Bismillah.

"I do."

"Then I officially pronounce you married!"

It was time.

I turned around and started to walk back down the steps Boran and Dumrul stood. As I walked, all the alps walked behind me. The same was happening for Konur on the other stairs. Goktug followed him, then Ayaz, and on and on.

At the end of the steps I turned and met with Konur. He lifted off my veil and smiled, grabbing my hands into his. We walked down the path, and the Hatuns threw rice at us. The alps got out their weapons, and started to dance around us.

At the end of the path, all of the people that mean the world to me stood. I made my way up to my parents and hugged them, while Konur gave a hug to Osman. This continued until everyone was laughing and crying.

It was time to go.

Yusuf helped me onto the carriage that would ride me and Konur to the Kayi tribe. Konur jumped in behind me and the rider took off. We sat, holding hands, waving at our family. We were a family now. That is what mattered.

We waved and waved until they were just little specks. The door shut behind us and a new door opened.
