The Battle of Yorktown, 1781 (Part 4)

Was I asleep? Unconcious?

What's real and what's not real?

Everything is so peaceful. I wish I could stay like this forever.

No pain, no problems. Just pure serenity. 

How long have I been like this? How much longer will I be?

Hours felt like minutes.

So many questions. No answers.

"Found one!"

"He's alive! I see him breathing!"

"Wait, no... it's a girl!"

"Didn't Major-General L/N go missing? Is it her?

"It is."

Alexander's POV

I tapped my foot lightly on the ground.

Y/N's been missing for longer than half a day. Ever since the British retreated, there's been no sign of her.

My stomach twisted and turned at the thought of her being taken as prisoner. If she were shot, surely someone would've found her by now. Or she would've helped herself. 

I just... God. I pray. That never used to happen before.

I don't even bother to check the time. I can't sleep, and nothing is going to change that.

A gust of wind blew my candle out. I don't even get up to relight it. I sit still, pushing away thoughts of what might've happened while also thinking of what might've happened.

 Without thinking, I growl and stomp my foot on the ground a single, hard time.

I wanted to look for Y/N. I would've spent all day. But Johnson ordered us to leave. 

I shouldn't have listened. They're just words. I should've stayed. And now Y/N's life could be on the line, and he didn't care. He said he'd send out a search party later, but I doubt he ever did.

It's my fault. It's his fault. It's everyone's fault.

Sorry it's short! Expect another update either today or tomorrow.

Sometimes it's not even about the amount of time I have to write. A lot of it has to do with motivation or even writer's block. So thank you for being patient! I can gladly say I have received no death threats yet!
