---------------------------------------

Fred looked up at the second floor of Earl Kirkland's estate when he heard a short scream from the earl's room. When he reached the said room, he saw William standing over the dead body with his bloody sword at hand.

The raven haired boy knows that everyone thinks that he is obedient and follows William's orders. But, he cannot stand seeing the one giving him orders planning to die in the end.

"This is the man that should be eliminated. They're the kind of demons who use their privilege to live their lives as they please." Fred refers to the dead earl before looking at the blond. "But, William-san, you are different!"

"Fred..."

"What you are doing... There is no one else who can... We are executing judgment! William-san, to me you are-no, to the world...! You are the executor of justice!"

At this point, Fred knows he is just rambling and is being out of line, but he couldn't care less.

"...So I came to follow you. I'm just doing the dirty work that somebody has to do and you only punish those who have sinned... But it's completely insane that you have to die! If the Lord of Crime bears all of the blame by the end of the operation, I think that the noble families and citizens will all arrive at a same conclusion. But with your mind... Couldn't you easily think of another way to achieve the same outcome?! I don't really think it's necessary for William-san to...!!"

He clenched his fist as he struggled to continue his next words. "You don't need to do that... Not at all... Because... Elise-sama... Elise-san will be heartbroken..."

He felt bad bringing up the young woman after everything that happened. He heard about what happened and was worried. William kept his expression blank since the start of the operation but he refused to talk more about Elise when Fred asked him earlier.

Silence fell in the room until William sheathed his sword/cane.

"Justice, huh...?"

He then pulled out a cigarette and lit it up before blowing a smoke.

"I... I've never thought of what I've done as "justice"." He starts. "As in the first place, I don't believe that people have the right to judge others."

"...Eh...?"

"...No matter how evil the other person is, I have this awareness that's been accumulating..." William stares at his gloved hands. "My once bruised hands have been stained through with scarlet. I don't know that I would get this stained and no matter what I do, I can't wash it off."

As William pictured his blood-stained hands, the image of Elise clasping her gentle hands around his own, not minding the blood on it. The smile on her face was soft and kind as she kissed the back of his hand.

"Didn't I tell you before?" The Elise in his mind says as she looked at him with her accepting and sincere emerald green eyes. "Your hands gave me freedom from my cage. They might have spilled the blood of other people but, I will always see them as the hands that saved me. Dyed crimson it may be, I will love you and accept you as always."

Elise often say that to him and admittedly, it made him feel loved and worthy. It made him less like a devil like how he thinks of his self.

A devil who is not worthy of someone kind and pure like Elise.
