part 54

Bjorn's purpose in coming to our encampment – I learned from Magda – was to inform us that the fleet was readying to sail.

I sat near what was the last fire in the whole camp.

The tears had stopped eventually, and Bjorn had left looking confused and exasperated by the saga.

Namely the one of how he had come to the camp and rushed into the river. This had alerted everyone to my helpless situation in the waters. Bjorn had wrenched me from the waters, whilst thrashed in his arms.

I might have said it was heroic, but I couldn't say what drove Bjorn to do anything...

Shieldmaidens, most unknown to me, hurried about our camp. They rushed back and forth packing up and transporting things to the ships.

It was not foreign to me to have people I didn't know diligently attending me. nevertheless, it was still strange; specially to have it from my captors.

But then were they captors anymore? Had they ever been?

For some reason I felt that I had known the Viking way in a previous life....

A flash of Bjorn's dead body on the ground consumed me and my breath stuttered.

''Asariel? - what is it? Another vision?'' Aziza asked from one side as Jasmine suddenly grasped my hand from the other side.

''no... I was just in the past- I am all right now.'' I answered squeezing Jasmine's hand in reassurance.

She didn't let go though.

''you would tell us- if you felt another coming upon you?''

''yes, Aziza – though it doesn't really come with a warning most of the time...'' I confessed as Jasmine leaned into my side her hands fidgeting with my fingers mindlessly.

''I'm so sorry we didn't save you Asariel- we should have paid more attention...'' she scrunched her face in disapproval of the situation.

''nonsense- you are not my watcher, and I was saved – no lasting harm has been done jasmine- I'm just a bit weak from the experience...'' I smiled down to her.

''she's right though – we should have been the ones to save you...'' Aziza spoke making me look into her eyes.

''and I say the same to you Aziza – and you too, Tanaruz'' the girl had taken to her boulder again. Her face was buried in her arms as she tried to shrink into herself.

''honestly, it was poor timing, but it was the gods' timing and that never really coincides with mine... and my being saved by Bjorn was most likely according to their plan...'' I said feeling irked that it was all being orchestrated from the divine realm... a ridiculous thing to get stuck on.

''I wish their gods would leave you alone'' Tanaruz had finally popped her head up – barely- to scowl around from her perch at the Vikings.

''I cannot say that.... ''

I looked around again at the women who had congregated in our camp. More had gained the courage to come once Bjorn's men had told all my having a vision and Bjorn's heroism.

Still, they were here and by being, so they were showing their newfound allegiance.

The entire world felt as though it was shifting like the infinite sands of the dessert...

''my Lady?'' I looked up to see tori staring down with concern.

''tori – what is wrong?'' I asked staring up into his dark eyes.
