"Start simple. Start with what you know is true Eve. My name is Evelyn Lily. My home is district 12. I was in the hunger games. I escaped. Flynn.... Flynn was left behind." I mumble to myself. I see a flash light and quickly hide behind the poles "Miss Lily?" Someone asks "You can't be in here" they tell me "I had a nightmare, just five more minutes" I tell them "You need sleep. We can help you sleep" he tells me "Just five more minutes" I tell them again "No" he says coming towards me "No please just give more-" I beg starting to cry again as he grabs me "Don't touch me! Don't! No! Get off me!" I yell as he drags me away
I sit on the hospital bed with wires attached to me. I hear something in another room so I stand up and slowly open my door. I walk into finnicks room to see him sitting on the edge of his bed. "Finnick" I say "I wanted to go back for Flynn, Johanna, Peeta.....But I couldn't move" he tells me then looks up "They have Annie, too. They took her. She's in the capitol. I wish she was dead. I wish they were all dead and we were too." he tells me with tears in his eyes A single tear falls from my eye, then I run over and give him a hug "I'm so sorry Finnick" I whisper as he tightens the hug crying into my shoulder.
I sit on the bed as I watch prim play with Kattnis' hair. I haven't seen Finnick or haymitch sense the first day. But I've become very close with prim and Kattnis, I consider them both my sister. Even if I haven't known them long. "Miss Everdeen Miss Lily" someone says after he walks into the room "Colonel Boggs, district 13's head of security. I know you've been discharged, but President coin's requested to meet with you first" he tells us "Is there any news?" Kattnis asks as we both stand up "I'm just here to escort you" he tells us
We start to go down the elevator when I decided to speak up. "We were always told there was nothing left of 13" I tell him "Capitol bombed the surface to rubble. But we're military, so we learned to survive down here. Preparing, training. The war never stopped for us" he tells us as we reach the bottom We walk through a crowd of people as Kattnis and I look up seeing how deep 13 really was.
We walk into a room to see Beetee there in a wheelchair. "There they are, the girls on fire. Madam President, may I present you with the mockingjays" heavensbee says "What an honor it is to meet you both" she says shaking our hands "You both our courageous women. I know how disorienting this must be. And I cant imagine what it's like to live through the atrocities of those games" she tells us "Kattnis, Evelyn, President Alma Coin" Plutarch says "Please know how welcome you are. I hope you find some comfort with us. We've known loss in 13 too" she tells us
"This is history. Right here at this table." She tells us walking off "I apologize. I wish you had more time to recover, but unfortunately, we don't have that luxury. Please have a seat" she tells us. Kattnis and I take our seat across from her "Are you aware of what's happened?" She asks us then she looks at me "When you fired that arrow at the force field you electrified the nation. There have been riots and uprisings and strikes in seven districts. We believe that if we keep this energy going we can unify the districts against the capitol. But if we don't, if we let it dissipate, we could be waiting another 75 years for this opportunity. Everyone in 13 is ready for this" she tells us "What about Peeta? And Flynn? Are they alive?" Kattnis asks knowing I was thinking the same thing "I don't know. And I wish that I did" she tells us "But there's no way for me to contact my operatives inside the Capitol" Plutarch says "The Capitol has always suppressed communication between the districts. But I know their system very well. I managed to break through" Beetee tells us "All we need now is the perfect message." Coin says "Kattnis, Evelyn, here's what we need to do. We need to show them that the mockingjays alive and well and willing to stand up and join this fight. Cause we need every district to stand up to this Capitol. The way you two did. So we're gonna have a shoot, a series of propaganda clips, props, I like to call them, on The mockingjays. Spreads the word that we're gonna stroke the fire of this rebellion. The fire that the mockingjays started" Plutarch tells us "You left him there. You left Flynn and Peeta in that arena to die." I tell them "Evelyn there were so...." He starts to say but I slam my hand in the table "Flynn was supposed to live!" I raise my voice "Miss Lily. This revolution is about everyone, it's about all of us. And we need a voice." She tells us "Then you should've them" I tell her then both Kattnis and I stand up and walk out.
Boggs escorts Kattnis and I to a hover craft. They told us we were going to visit 12. I watch as Kattnis runs over to give a man standing there a hug. Then he turns to look at me "You can say no" he tells me "I need to see it for myself" I tell him before walking into the plane.
As soon as we start to land gale speaks up "13 swept everything. Top to bottom so you'd be safe" he tells us "You sure you don't want me to go with you both?" Gale asks "Yeah, I'm sure. I've got kattnis" I tell him even though I knew he was just wanting to be with Kattnis "We'll have are eyes on you from above" he tells us as we walk out. As soon as we're off they fly back up
I look around at the place I once called home completely destroyed. I walk around as tears threaten to drop. Looking at the roads I used to walk on, the buildings I used to visit.
I walk up a small hill as I hear something crack beneath me. I move my foot looking down at a scull. My hand instantly flys up to my mouth. I feel myself shake as I walk up the rest of the hill.
And that's when I see it. My whole view was filled with bones of the people who once lived here. I drop to my knees as I let out a cry. Kattnis drops down next to me holding my side trying to bring me comfort. I let a few more tears out before I could finally stand up.
I walk through the gates of my small house. As I walk closer I realize not one inch of my house was touched. I open the door and walk through, I go over and grab my jacket that was hanging. "You can grab a jacket Kattnis" I tell her and she nods gratefully I grab my bag next and walk into the living room. I grab herbs and things London and Roman had put on the counter and put them into my bag. Then I hear something behind me
Both Kattnis and I spin around quickly only to see a cat there. "Oh my God you idiot, I thought I told you to leave this stupid house the last time I saw you" I mumble at the cat "You have a cat? You never told me that" Kattnis laughs "I don't, this cat showed up one day while we were here. I guess it decided it was it's home" I say letting out a small chuckle Then after a few seconds of petting it I looked at Kattnis "Does prim like cats?" I ask her "Yeah, she used to have one back at 10" she smiles "Huh" I shrug then grab the cat "You're coming with us" I laugh as I put the cat into my bag
Then I walk into my dad's office. I smile at his picture before looking at the dead flowers. But something catches my eye. I pull out a white rose that was in the middle. It was completely alive, not one speck of it dead.
Snow was here.
I quickly drop it down before Kattnis comes to my side. "Is that-" she trails off "He was here" I mumble "We should go" I say as I grab her hand and walk out
