As Kattnis haymitch and I all walk into the room I see Finnick on the screen. "Winner of the 65th Hunger Games. And I'm coming to you from district 13, alive and well. We've survived an assault from the Capitol. But I'm not here to give you recent news." he says "Why is Finnick doing a propo?" Kattnis asks "It's a lot more than that" Haymitch says "Beetee's commandeered the system." Coin tells us "Now that they're down to generator power there's more limited range of frequencies available to them. And I'm filling them all up with Finnick." Beetee tells us "Not many will see it, but whoever does will think it's another propo" Plutarch says "What they don't know is this broadcast is jamming their entire system with noise. Early defense warning, internal communications, everything. As long as the broadcast goes through our team should be able to get in and out undetected." Beetee tells us "The truth. Not the myths about a life of luxury. Not the lie about glory for your homeland. You can survive the arena. The moment you leave, you're a slave.... President Snow used to sell me. Or my body at least. I wasn't the only one. If a victor was considered desirable, the president gives them as a reward or allows people to buy them. If you refuse, he kills someone you love." Finnick tells the camera as my eyes tear up knowing his story, his story also being my story.
"We're you one?" Kattnis whispers to me "Yes" I breath out keeping my eyes on the screens "7....6....5....4....3....2....1... no response from perimeter defense. Were inside Capitol airspace" they tell us as we all let out a sigh
"To make themselves feel better, my patrons would make presents of money or jewelry. But I found a much more valuable form of payment. Secrets. See I know all the depravity, the deceit and the cruelty of the Capitol pampered elite. But the biggest secrets are about our good President, Coriolanus Snow. Such a young man when he rose to power. Such a clever one to keep it. How, may you ask, did he do it? One word. Poison." Finnick says as we watch the soldiers start to walk through the building
"He stopped every mutiny before it even started. There are so many mysteries deaths to advertises. Even to allies who were threats." Finnick says as the soldiers go through the building with their guns ready to fire
"Snow would drink from the same cup, to deflect suspicion. But antidotes don't always work,which is why he wears roses that reek of perfume. Help cover the scent of blood from sores in his mouth that will never heal. But he can't hide the scent of who he really is. He kills without mercy. He rules with deception and fear. His weapon of choice is the only thing suited to such a man. Poison. The perfect weapon for a snake." Finnick says
"What is this place?" Gale asks as they walk through the rooms where they see tools with blood on them.
Then a bright light turns on, blinding them all. "Beetee?" I ask quickly "I'm losing them." Beetee says "Powering back up" Coin says "Ma'am the Capitol air defense system is rebooting. It's coming back online" a man tells her "Must be diverting power from another source. And flittering transmissions. Another 60 seconds and we'll be cut off." Beetee tells us "Ma'am president should we call back the hovercraft?" A man asks
"Broadcast us" I tell them "If snows watching this, maybe he'll let the signal in, if he sees us. Put us on the air so he can see us" I tell them "Yes yes" Plutarch nods "Put them on" coin says "Can we do this? Can we still get in?" Haymitch asks "Yes for a moment. The lines open. He will only see you" Beetee tells us "Ok Kattnis, Evelyn go" Haymitch says pointing the camera at us "President Snow?" I say "It's Kattnis and Evelyn. President snow? It's Kattnis and Evelyn" Kattnis says "President Snow we need to speak with you. Are you there?" I ask "President Snow it's Kattnis and Evelyn. Can you hear us? We need to speak with you" Kattnis asks "President Snow it's Evelyn and Kattnis. President Snow are you there? Can you hear me?" I ask but no answer We both look at everyone before we keep going.
"President snow-" I start to say but I was cut off "Miss Lily, Miss Everdeen. What an honor" he says as the screen lights up with his face "I don't imagine you're calling to thank me for the roses" he smiles "We never asked for this." I tell him "We never asked to be in the games. We never asked to be the mockingjays. I just wanted to save my sister and keep Peeta alive" Kattnis tells him "All I wanted was to save my friends, my family. Please let them go. And we will stop being the mockingjays." I tell him "We will disappear. You will never see us ever again." Kattnis tells him "Miss Everdeen Miss Lily. You couldn't run from this anymore than you could have run from the games." He tells us "Please. You've won. You've already beaten us." Kattnis says "Release Flynn and Peeta and take me instead." I tell him "Take us instead" Kattnis adds "We're long past the opportunity for noble sacrifice." He says "Then tell us what to do. We've always keep our promises haven't we?" Kattnis asks "You said you didn't want a war. And that's just what's happened. I told you what a fragile thing peace was. And still, like a child, you took pleasure in breaking it. I know what you are. I know you can't see past your narrowest concerns. But please Miss Everdeen and Miss Lily, I doubt you know what honestly is anymore." He says "You asked me to convince you that I was in love with Peeta. Haven't I at least done that?" Kattnis asks "Miss Everdeen Miss Lily. It's the things we love most that destroy us. I want you to remember that I said that..... don't you think I know your friends are in the tribute center?.. cut them off" snow says turning away "No" I mumble catching myself from falling "What happened?" Kattnis asks "Boggs come in" Beetee says "What happened?" Kattnis asks again "Boggs come in do you read me?" Beetee asks "No no no he knows they're in there! It was a trap!" I tell them "We have to get a hold of them- we have to get them out. He knows" Kattnis cries "He knows, he knows" I keep mumbling with my hands on my head. Tears flowing down my face. I look up to see haymitch hugging Kattnis.
I'd never felt so alone than I had in that moment. My parents, gone. Camilla, gone. London and Roman, gone. And now Flynn is gone. "He always knows. Always." I mumble to myself as I fall against the wall crying
