This is a long one my loves, but I tried so I'm sorry if it sucks.

Being a shield maiden meant a lot to you, despite your mothers pleas to just settle down and have a family. The thrill of a fight brought something out in you that could only be described as animalistic.

You fought alongside many great warriors but went unnoticed. Sure, no one bothered you for fear of your temper, but they still thought little of your fighting skills.

You were no Ragnar but you could still defend yourself against multiple people at once. On more then one occasion you had lashed out at one of the warriors who fought alongside you and cut his finger right off in blinding rage.

That's what caught Ivars attention.

His brothers had no clue he had no care for Margrethe. She was nothing to him, yet he could watch you fight for hours. Your spirit was strong and your sword stronger.

One day while you were training alone, as you usually do, Ivar decided to pay you a visit.

You grunted as you threw the large axe into a log rather far away. Your muscles screamed in pain after how long you had been training, you knew you needed to keep practicing if you were ever going to be able to go on an actual raid.

Then you felt eyes on you as you ripped the axe from the log. Sweat dropped down your forehead and you threw your axe in the direction of the eyes, just missing.

"I would almost think you had the intentions to kill me, shield maiden." Ivar mused and your eyes widened realizing who's voice it was.

"My prince!" You called out bowing quickly and then looking at him, "my apologies, I thought you were one of the men, here to criticize me once more."

"So you sought to kill them then?" He asked amused.

"No, just to scare them, as tough as they are, they fear my anger." You beam, smiling as you walk over to grab the axe. It was almost stuck in the tree and you were rather proud of that.

Ivar laughs lightly and watches you pull the axe from the tree. "I could give you a few pointers if you wish." Ivar states looking at you, waiting for a reaction.

"I wouldn't wish to trouble you my Prince." You smile as you put the axe into its holder and grab your sword, to head back home.

"Tomorrow it is then, meet me here before the sun rises." Ivar smirks and you look at him a little lost. He leans on his crutch and starts walking away, you follow him and end up catching up.

"Why is the prince of Kattegat helping a simple warrior?" You ask, curious.

"You interest me, you fight with the power of Thor, yet no one seems to take any notice of you." Ivar claims and you look down at your feet as you walk.

"Not to mention your temper, we seem to have that in common do we not?" He states blandly and pays no attention to the people saying hi to him as he walks by.

You nod and then look over at, you had never done so before. Everyone always said he was a heartless, cruel man who had no friends but you found that hard to believe.

After a long night of cleaning and then bathing you finally settle into bed, not for long though. You wake yourself up before the sun rises, as Ivar instructed and gather your weapons and head to where you train.

Ivar is standing there, cleaning dirt from under his nails with his axe, unaware of you being there.

"Tell me again why you picked this early?" You yawn as he looks up at you and smiles softly.

"Well, it's better to get an early start. Now let me show you a few things when it comes to one on one combat." He instructs and you both end up there until the afternoon.

If you thought your muscles hated you yesterday then you had nothing compared to what you felt now. Every part of you wanted to just collapse and you almost did so.

Ivar seemed to be amused by your struggles and you just rolled your eyes when he brought it up, causing him to laugh.

"Come then, little warrior. I'm sure my mother has some sort of food out, you shall join me and eat." Ivar instructs and you follow behind him, not even thinking about what he had just said.

Then as you walked through the doors of the hall, it hit you. You were going to be eating at the Queens table, as a guest. Your mother would be so jealous.

"Ivar! I see you've brought a friend, and what is your name my love?" Aslaug ask you, a warm, welcoming smile on her face.

"My Queen," You bow, "I'm (y/n). Ivar and I were just training." You smile to her and she offers you a seat as Ivar sits down.

You eat as the Queen talks to Ivar and his brothers, they all look at you confused as to why you are there but Sigurd ends up just asking anyway, earning a glare from Ubbe.

Ivar responds with such sarcasm it hurts.

You excuse yourself after a while, you had to clean your equipment and head home to make dinner for your family anyway.

"Please return again soon my dear, I'm so glad you have befriended my young Ivar." Aslaug smiles as she stand up and gives you a hug.

"What she means is, she is so happy someone is willing to be friends with Ivar, because he's crazy." Sigurd grins and you roll your eyes as Ivar sends him dark glares.

Ivar walks out with you, well you walk and he crawls, and then goes to your house with you.

"My mother seems to enjoy you a lot." Ivar smiles to himself and you look down at him.

"I'm glad my friends mother approves of me." You laugh and he looks up at you surprised.

"Friend?" He says confused, "Sigurd isn't making you do this as some sick joke right?" Ivar states, his tone getting dark all of a sudden.

"Not even for all the gold in Kattegat my dear Ivar." You grin and he smiles a little as he stands up and you give him a hug.

"Well, have a good night my Prince, I'll see you tomorrow." You smile and wave to him as you walk inside.

Ivar stands there a little shocked and heads back to the hall. You were Ivars one and only friend, and he was determined to make you more.
