Chapter 21

When I woke back up, I was in some sort of cell. Yes, an actual cellar-cage-like-thing, apparently you can have those down here. God's sense of humour still hasn't made me laugh. I sighed, and straightened myself up to look around me. It was incredibly dark, and the water in this area was rather cold. I was having such a bad day...

"Pssst Tara" I heard someone whisper.

I turned my head around and saw both princesses curled up together on a flat rock. They both looked absolutely terrified and pale. I then also noticed the guard swimming around the cell, watching us. That would explain the whispering.

"What the hell is going on!?" This was a little louder than intended, but the guard still didn't hear it. I am such a ninja.

"Adara has gone nuts!" Cyri exclaimed, oddly enough she was able to sound angry, but still talk lowly. I'm gonna have to work on that.

"She has us trapped down here." Breena continued for her sister, whispering as well. "Taiven and my father are in the other cell."

"She plans on forcing Taiven into marriage so she could gain control over the ocean." Cyri explained. "She is a mermaid from the deep, and all she wants is for our kingdom to fall so that hers can rise and rule the ocean."

I didn't hear what she said after Taiven being in the other cell.           I quietly swam to the bars separating our cages, and looked in. The king was eyeing me with disgust, so I shot him a look, but honestly it was more Taiven that I was worried about. He was lying on the flat rock, unconscious.

"What happened to him?" I whispered to no one in particular.

"Probably the same thing that happened to you" Taiven Senior whispered back. "He was attacked by one of those of the deep. They have venomous fangs and claws, with too much in your system you could die. Luckily, this one seemed to know what it was doing and just make him unconscious; you on the underhand I have no clue what you are still doing alive."

"That's nice Dad" Breena sarcastically mumbled.

"I hear talking!" The dark merman guard shouted, but didn't bother to come check on us. It's like he thought that if he only shouted we would obey. This guy has a lot to learn.

"God, they're like underwater vampires." I commented in a whisper as I looked at the guard.

"Actually" The king hurried to correct me. "They are the result of Night Walkers—the correct term for night vampires—and merpeople mating, an abomination to a mercreature kind. What is next, half-mermaids?"

A moment of silence passed, all you heard was my stomach acting funky. Yes, it has not gotten better. After awhile I remembered that I hadn't understood what Cyri told me earlier.
