Sadie used to live with her ex-boyfriend, Justin King.
He was volatile and always angry.
Screaming, screaming, screaming.
They fought a lot, until Sadie decided to leave.

Her departure had been sudden,
Quick and messy like a hurricane.
So she left something important behind:
A denim jacket from her father.

"It's covered in patches,"
She tells him.
Logos and pieces of places her father had visited when he was young.
"Like a patchwork of memories."

They drop off outside his house
A plain suburban home in a troubled neighborhood.
"He won't be home," Sadie says.
"It'll be quick. In and out."

She goes around the back,
Jimmying open a loose window.
They slip into the kitchen like thieves,
Purposefully quiet.

Sadie finds her jacket and gathers her clothes.
Quick, quick, quick.
Jason watches the door.
Tick, tick, tick.

"Okay I'm done, let's—"
Sadie says
and the door

opens.

Justin King stumbles through the door.
They are caught like a deer in headlights.

His eyes smothered
Lips pull tight

"What the fuck are you doing in my house?"
