Avani woke up, gasping for the non-existent air and gulped down a whole mouthful of water.

She flung her arms and kicked, hoping she would get up to the top for air.

Just as her forehead was about to touch the crisp oxygen, something grabbed her by her ankle and pulled her down.

Her lungs burned, she saw white creeping around her eyes, but she refused to give up.

She made the hand motion and her wand appeared.

She stabbed whatever that just pulled her under and kicked.

Avani swam up to the surface and gasped a whole lot of air.

Her sight finally came to focus and she saw the most beautiful island in front of her.

Suddenly, she got pulled down again.

She struggled to keep her eyes open. What she saw was horrifying.

It was black...greasy...

Slimy...

It was disgusting.

She kicked and tried to fight the monster, but it was no use.

Tired of fighting, Avani flung her wrist and pointed the wand's tip and the black greasy thing and it exploded.

She swam to the shore and panted.

Then she looked up and gasped.

The ocean in front of her is now black.

Polluted.

"No..no, no, no!" Avani cried and ran to the shoreline.

She brushed her hands through the waves and blackness stained her fingers.

Avani lowered her head and sobbed.

She was supposed to be helping this planet! Not go against it, like everyone else!

Then, she got what the clue meant.

"Control your waves, don't let them control you."

Avani took several deep breaths.

"Control your waves, don't let them control you," Avani breathed. "But what if it's too late? WHat if I've already let my emotions get the best of me?"

Avani's eyes started to tear up again and she furiously wiped them away.

She wasn't giving up.

Ever.

Then she smelled something.

Something...

It smelled like over-baked cookies.

Burnt.

Oh no...

Avani slowly turned around, being afraid of what she might see.

One her brain processed the scene in front of her, she shrieked.

Flames, flames, and flames were everywhere.

The trees in front of her collapsed and burnt to ashes.

"No...NO!"

Avani was about to run into the blazing flames but something held her back.

"Control your waves, don't let them control you..."

Then she remembered something.

"Lava might not be right, but fire might..."

That clue only led her to the erupting volcano.

It didn't do the fire part yet.

Avani pieced them together and gaped at the horrible conclusion she came with.

"S-so am I just gonna have to watch..." she gulped. "..the beautiful nature burn?"

Avani quivered.

She felt sick.

Who was she? Watching the remorseless fire just destroy Earth when she could do something about it?

She was going to march right into the fire when she heard her mother's voice.

"You're going to have to take my job, Princess. Promise me something. You will make life live. You will do a better job than I. Most importantly, you will complete this mission and make sure no one takes you for granted. No one."

Avani spun around. "Mom?"

She walked closer to the water. "...Mom?"

She heard nothing but the crackling flames behind her.

"I-I need to complete this mission..."

Avani looked behind her.

"This is a mission."

And with her chin lifted, she sat.

Doing nothing but watch the fire burn and the oil in the waters float.

She got it now.

Whoever set this up was testing her ability to control herself.

Avani smirked.

"You're messing with the wrong person."

And the island exploded.
