❝ To the stars that listen and
the dreams that are answered ❞WHEN I OPENED THE FIRST envelope and read the letter, I knew that it was from Cade almost immediately.
Charlize—
I was going to be mean and trick you
into thinking that I was kidnapped but
I figured you'd been through enough,
so instead I'll give you a little riddle:Go to the place,
Where I showed you a face,
Look for a friend,
To better comprehend,—Cade
"What is going on?" I said out loud. I read the letter again and tried to make sense of it.
The only place I could think of that he was hinting at was the park, the time when I grabbed his precious notepad and saw a drawing of myself. That had to be it.
I hopped on my bike and rode to the center of town.
When I got there, I looked around in confusion until I saw Veronica reading on a bench. Was she supposed to be the friend?
"Hey," I walked up to her and she looked up, "This is going to sound weird but I got this secret letter from Cade saying to meet a 'friend' here?"
Veronica's facial expression didn't change.
"I have no idea what you're talking." She shrugged and took out an envelope from her book. She held it out to me but I didn't touch it. "Take it."
"What's going on? Where's Cade?" I was totally confused.
"Like I said," she grabbed my hand and made me take it before walking away, "I don't know what you're talking about."
