Chapter 9

I shifted as I leapt off the porch alongside my beta. We dashed off towards the entrance. I heard arrows being readied and guns being cocked. I sensed magic as well. Pounding paws followed.

As soon as we all got past the gates, I lounged for the nearest intruder. I pounced on her back, digging my claws into her flesh, shredding it with ease. Direct fighting was my specialty, and I've specialized far better than anyone but my dad and his beta in our pack.

The girl dropped to the earth in a heap. As soon as my paws landed, I lunged for the biggest enemy. I sunk my teeth deep into the throat. The male roared in pain, shaking me off with a lot of struggle. It must've been their leader because all movement immediately stopped right after they heard the noise.

We wrestled and tore at each other with murderous intents. We almost ran over some of our members, but we were too blinded by rage to notice or care. Whatever it took, we wanted the other dead. I got pinned harshly to the cold ground. He snarled down at me. Ironically, it started raining. The rain were my tears of defeat right now.

He leaned down, clenching his fangs around my throat. I howled in agony, and I swear my father could hear it. I felt my twin's feelings stir deep inside of me. Almost as if he could hear my cries of pain and torture. A man was suddenly above me, and I noticed that the wolf above me had shifted.

He snarled at the boys, and they returned it ten times scarier as they took a threatening step forward. The man pressed a pressure point on my body, forcing my shift back. I was completely vulnerable to him now. He yanked me up and had a blade aiming right above my heart. If he would pierce, he would puncture my heart open and kill me.

He would need to avoid other things like the rib cage and what not, but with the way it was angled, I can almost guarantee that he would avoid all of it and strike the heart easily. He was a trained killer. An excellent one at that. I snarled over my shoulder at him as he pulled me along. He was walking backwards towards the wall.

He was probably using me as a threat to get inside. A gunshot sounded, and his hands were suddenly gone. I just stood frozen in my place, completely terrified.

Another one went off, and the guy on Dominic was dead in a heartbeat. Two sounded at once. One then another. One by one or two by two, the rogues lie on the ground, dead. Their lifeless bodies forced themselves back into their original human forms.

Arms securely wrapped around me, and I heard Sylver snort and scoff, "Teaches you not to touch what doesn't belong to you." I turned in his hold, burying my face in his chest as my body shook in fear and relief. He tossed his gun aside, taking me in closer.

"Nice shot," Tom said to his brother before being engulphed in the arms of his own mate.

"That was dangerous," Dom scolded.

"But if something went wrong, you'd come to my rescue, so I didn't have to worry," Tom replied innocently.

"That's only true if I can get to you on time," Dominic argued.

"But you'll always come to me," Tom repeated. "I'll fight until you can get to me. I promise. I'm not weak. I'm a trained killer." He looked down after his last statement.

"It's true," Sylver confessed, gliding his fingers through my hair. I sighed in content. I didn't care if my mate was a deadly killer that has killed a thousand people in his lifetime. That's not who he was right now. He was my mate, my hero, my guardian. I loved him for who he was, not what someone forced him to be because of his family history.

He was my new best friend. My home. My lifeline. My family. My mate. My love. My partner. My savior. My hero. My guardian.

My forever.
