Chapter 4

I weaved through the trees at such a rapid speed, it had my head spinning. I continued my sharp, fast-paced sprint as the others followed my lead towards the witches' lands. It was located near the hunters' lands, but not quite.

Sylver was escorted home by my father early this morning. I didn't get a chance to say goodbye. I did, however, get to talk to him when we returned home last night. Turns out, the spell he chanted was latin.

"Hic calor deam luna prohibere. Quaeso, dea lunae."

He actually said: This heat, the goddess of the moon to stop. Please Goddess of the moon.

Well, at least he stopped my heat

Well, at least he stopped my heat. Whether or not I knew what he was saying or not at the time.

As we came to the clearing, I jumped, landing sideways to stop myself. I glanced at my team and then the witches' fortress. I panted heavily from the two day long trip.

Father had told us not to stop running unless it was for a quick drink or a quick snack

Father had told us not to stop running unless it was for a quick drink or a quick snack. He feared we would end up being trapped by hunters if we weren't on our feet and have our guards up.

"Welcome, young werewolves," the head witch announced at the fortress's entrance."Quickly," she said, gesturing towards the entrance. I glanced around, making sure it was safe for my squad to run across the good 100 feet to the fortress castle. I nodded to them to run.

They sprinted across the plain. When they all safely entered, I bolted after them. Twigs snapping in the distance had me pausing.

Hunters, Pyrite told me. I raced to the entrance and safely inside the fortress walls. The head witch handed me clothes and snapped her fingers. I was transformed back into my human form.

Me and my team of four followed the witches through the courtyard around to the back of the castle. I rubbed my sore arms, hoping to lessen the soreness. Behind the castle fortress, there were people practicing archery and others practicing magic.

"This is where you will be training, young Alpha," the head witch announced, causing attention to be drawn to us. "As you can see, these doing archery are hunters. Not all are mythical creature hunters, but some are hunters for things we witches need for our potions."

"Hunters?" I growled, glaring at her. "You said it would be safe here."

"And it is. They will never harm you. They can track mythical creatures down and kill them, sure. However, they will do no such thing unless I order them to do so," she defended. I clenched my jaw. "As I was saying, those doing magic are witches, wizards, warlocks, and sorcerers."

"And if they turn on you, will my pack be in danger while we're staying here?"

"Of course not. My people and I will defend you. Your pack is safe."

"Very well." I closed my eyes for a moment before opening them, and I turned to my team. I nodded my head. They know the drill. They howled at the waning gibbous moon, racing off in different directions. "My pack will only attack in self defense," I told her sharply, turning away.

"I've prepared myself to be ready for any way you werewolves act. But the way you act is not what I had in mind for an Alpha." I snarled murderously, turning back to her.

"Listen and listen well. If you or those so called hunters try to hurt my pack, you'll be their next dinner. Got that." The witch sighed but nodded. A hand gripped at my shoulder.

"Alpha, cool your jets."

"Dominic, I advise you don't even dare right now," I growled.

"Geez, did you have to piss off the Alpha, witch lady? You realize she's a hard fire to put out?" Bentley groaned. I closed my eyes to breathe. Dominic is my Beta and my most trusted warrior. Bentley is my Gamma.

"I'm fine, Dominic," I snapped. He sighed in defeat. My twin generals came back in human form with clothes on.

"What'd we miss?" Sean asked. Drane cocked his head to the side.

"Don't think just because my temper is more leveled doesn't mean my promise falls. As for these hunters," I glanced at the hunters, "keep them in check while we're here. I'm a female, yes. But don't think for a second I won't dirty my hands to protect my pack."

"As you wish, young Alpha."

"And I thought our mom was the scary one," Drane whispered.

"Nah, our Alpha will always overpower and intimidate someone a lot more than any other person."

"Dominic," I called much more harshly than I'd wish to have.

"Yeah, Alpha?"

"Meet me out here at dawn. We have things to discuss."

"As you wish." He bowed his head as I walked towards him to go to the front of the fortress. I paused next to him.

"Dom." He looked at me. I smiled, still looking straight ahead. I did turn to look at him after a few seconds. "You four don't have to bow to me. Go get some rest."

They grinned at each other in victory. I led them to the front, but I didn't go in. Instead, I swiftly changed into my shifting clothes. I ran forward, jumped, and shifted midair. I landed on all fours smoothly.

Something doesn't feel right. I sniffed the air, but it was too late.
