Chapter 16

"Why did you follow me?" I snapped at my father.

"I wanted to know what this was about the boarders." I stiffened. They didn't contact him? Who was patrolling the damn boarder?

"Shit," I mumbled. This can't be good. I turned on my heel and bolted for the patrol team. Shit. Shit. Shit. Come on. I knew it. I slowed down. I could smell their scents in the air.

"Why are there only kids on the boaders?" Caine questioned.

"There shouldn't be. There should have about ten adults in the North alone," Dad disagreed.

"You sure took your sweet time," Dom huffed when he seen me.

"I was...busy," I told him.

"With what?"

"That's not important." Dominic barked in amusement, and I swear if I was in human form, I would be flustered. Caine snorted, walking past me towards our novices. A rogue group stood just beyond our boarders. Caine got in a fighting position with a warning growl, just waiting for my command. "Who are you?" I interrogated.

"Name's Lee. Rogue King of Lilac Forest, at your service. I would like to discuss a few matters with the alpha of this pack." I folded my ears, looking back at my father. He straightened, puffing out his chest. I turned back to the wolf.

"What kind of matters?"

"I'd rather not say in front of so many ears. Are you the alpha?"

"The oldest heir."

"Ah." He locked eyes with Dad. "Which means you are the alpha." Ansel and Sparrow, King of South America and Europe, growled deadly, standing close to Father.

"Eyes on me, Buddy," I snarled. I heard feet landing on the ground, causing me to turn towards my territory. I watched Sylver run a hand through his hair.

"Who's he?"

"My mate."

"So he's the one my group was frightened of."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"He's why I'm here."

"Figures," Sylver scoffed. "Why wouldn't it be? All of you wolves have a problem with me. It's why the council came here in the first place, too, isn't it?" he asked King of Antarctica: Joden. Joden shook his head no.

"It would have been nice to meet you, but I honestly was just stopping by on my way back to my pack. I had no intention of messing with you nor Johna's heir," Joden answered. "To be honest, I was planning on you guys not arriving until tomorrow."

"Why do you wolves have an obsession with me anyways? I didn't even do anything. Is it because I'm a hunter?" He took out his knife, twirling it expertly in his hand. "Or perhaps..." His eyes went dark. "It's because I'm the mate of one of the most powerful king's heir." He pointed his knife straight in front of him at the rogue king. Everyone held their breath. "Either way," he said after a minute of tense silence, putting his blade away with closed eyes. "I'm becoming more popular than I was hunting mythical creatures. It's kinda annoying having all of this fussing going on over me." He opened his eyes as he turned to leave. He glared over his shoulder. "But don't think for a second that just because I'm a hunter that I'll let anyone touch, threaten, or disrespect my partner. Because if you do believe that, then you are sorely mistaken. So either change the topic, or get the hell off our lands before you're on my hunter list. Your choice." The rogue king snarled, but took his troop back into the forest. "That's what I thought."

Sylver scoffed, leaving me to wonder what the hell just happened. My mate walked away silently, the rogue king disappeared quickly, and the patrol looked at me questionably.

"What the...he can't show up out of the blue and be a badass like that! That's not fair!" Emilio whined. I glanced at him in bewilderment. "What? He's my brother-in-law, right? I can praise him however I please." I heard a chuckle a little ways away. Sylver's chuckle.

"Thanks for that, Emilio."

"Please. Lio is fine," Emilio said, sitting with his chest puffed out with pride and confidence.

"What? Not cool," I huffed.

"Why not?"

"I don't even get to call you that."

"He's a guy." Emilio stuck his nose up in the air. I just stood there, fighting the tears that threatened to fall.

"Would it have made a difference if I was born a boy?" Emilio's head snapped to me in confusion.

"What are you talking about? You're my big sister."

"Yeah. You're right, sorry. I have work to do. I'll be home late." I turned, racing off.

Third Person
"What was that all about?" Ansel questioned as Sylver watched his mate run off with a semi-neutral look.

"My guess," Sylver spoke up, catching everyone's attention, "is that she wishes she was born a boy instead because then she'd be accepted more." He was walking away as he was speaking. He knew how his mate felt, but Emilio was heart-broken at what he had just learned about his sister. His twin.

Jazlynn had recently marked Sylver, and he still had his claim on her the night that he bit her. It was slowly but surely morphing into a mate claim. He was thrilled that her Moon Goddess allowed that to be his own claim on her. It protected her from other males, and it warned them of the dangers that could happen if they tried to take her from him.
