Everyone sat on the Plantar family wagon as they emerged from the mountain. Sprig was looking back at the signs. "Did you see that sign? We've officially left the valley. This is the most exciting thing that's ever happened to anyone. Aren't you excited? I'm excited. Anne, you should be more excited."

"I'm excited. There's a lot riding on this trip for me and I wanna keep my expectations in- What?" Anne went wide eyed when she saw the plains up ahead. There was farmland, massive crystals and giant mushrooms in the distance. She could even see a volcano. This was the most beautiful sight she had seen since arriving in Wartwood.

Hop Pop stopped Bessie to let the kids take in the view. Everyone was in awe at the sight before them.

"It's amazing. It's majestic. It's hurting my eyes." Anne rubbed her face.

"It's even better than I could've dreamed." Sprig had never left the valley before; this was a completely new experience for him. He jumped on Bessie's shell, looking off into the distance. "Full speed ahead, Hop Pop. Keep driving and never look back."

"Hold on, Sprig. Look back here for a second. Now that we're out of the valley, things can get dangerous fast, so..." Hop Pop jumped out of the seat and fell into the wagon through the ceiling hatch. He then grabbed a thick book and placed it on the table. "From now on we're gonna follow Hop Pop's Rules of the Road. By me, Hop Pop."

This earned a groan from everyone except Drake. He was usually a stickler for safety and rules.

"Another huge book? Seriously?" Anne complained.

Hop Pop scolded them. "You kids got a problem with books? Why, without books..."

"Our civilization would crumble to nothingness." Anne, Sprig and Polly recited lazily.

Hop Pop picked up the book and opened to a random page. "Now, the only way we'll get to Newtopia in one piece is if we follow these rules." he turned the page. "Like this one here. Rule number ninety-eight. 'Never strike a heroic pose on the fwagon.' It's a sign of hubris that invites disaster."

"So, like don't do anything that could be seen as a challenge to the road. That doesn't sound too bad." Drake clarified.

Hop Pop placed a couple of drawing books and colored pencils on the table for Polly. Then he strapped Sprig into a small seat. "That should keep your sense of adventure in check." He climbed out of the wagon through the ceiling hatch. "All right kids, let's stick to the rules, and we should have a safe and completely uneventful trip. Okay, thanks. Bye."

"Man, this stinks." Sprig launched his tongue so he could pull up the window cover. "All those adventures out there and we're stuck in here with these dumb rules."

"Not much we can do. My dad was the same way back home. One time we drove to the Grand Canyon and didn't stop once." Anne explained.

"Personally, after all the dangerous stuff I've gone through. It'll be nice to have some peace." Drake said.

"Well, if anyone can figure out how to have fun with these rules, it's us." Sprig said.

All four kids shouted in unison. "Newtopia, here we come!"

Hop Pop called out to the kids. "Road rule number twenty-nine. 'No shouting.' Marauders will follow the sound and steal your skin."

About an hour later, Sprig was staring outside the wagon when he noticed something. "A rainbow waterfall! We gotta pull over!" he exclaimed.

"Bah-bah-bah! Road rule number two-forty-three. 'All natural phenomena lead to an unnatural death.'"

"I thought these were rules about safety, not what we should expect on the road." Drake complained.
