It was 10 am when Irum got back home from university. Her best friend Alya had kindly given her a ride.

As she entered the house, she noticed that everyone was fast asleep.

Usually, they all went to bed early because of their early morning work routines. But during Ramadan, they had off from their offices and studies, they tended to stay up later.

Quietly, Irum made her way to Maheen's room and gently opened the door.

To her amusement, she found Maheen dead asleep. She couldn't help but shake her head in disbelief, but she decided to go in and tidy up the room.

She neatly tucked in Maheen's blanket and gently brushed the stray hairs away from her face.

Irum couldn't help but smile softly at her dear cousins's more like sisters peaceful state. Satisfied with her efforts, she left the room.

Once outside, Irum let out a sigh of frustration. She was battling a terrible headache and longed for a warm cup if chai (tea) to soothe her pain.

Unfortunately, cooking was not her thing. She had never been interested in it since she was a child, so she never bothered to learn.

She knows basics like making undrinkable chai, burnt eggs, and toast as black as coal. These are all her specialities.

She quietly went to the kitchen and started working.

First, she took out a pan and poured in half a cup of water and half a cup of milk. Then she placed the pan on the stove.

After that, she opened 10 tea bags and added the tea leaves to the mixture in the pan.

Once she finished adding the tea, she took 8 tablespoons of sugar and added it as well.

She sat back and waited for the liquid to boil. While waiting, she started thinking about scary things like something grabbing her foot or seeing a nun behind her in the mirror.

After about 5 minutes, the liquid started boiling, so she got up and stood in front of the stove.

While waiting, she felt something on her shoulder. She turned her head slowly and dramatically,

imagining all those scary thoughts. Without looking behind her, she screamed bloddy murder and dropped the pan, causing the hot liquid to spill on her feet.

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"

Zayan, who was watching his TV series, heard the noises from the kitchen and decided to check it out.

When he came downstairs, he saw his sister causing another disaster in the kitchen.

Being the softie he is, he decided to help her.

He placed his hand on her shoulder to get her attention, but to his surprise, she started screaming.

He flinched badly and quickly turned her around, placing his hand over her mouth to stop her from waking up the entire house with her loud screams.

Unfortunately, everyone heard her screams and rushed to the kitchen.

"kya hua?" Haider asked, looking worried.

Irum, who realized it was her brother Zayan and not a nun, stopped screaming and stared at him with wide eyes.

She didn't pay attention to the hot liquid that had fallen on her feet, causing them to turn a bright red color.

She smiled nervously as Zayan removed his hand from her mouth. She was about to say something, but Saad beat her to it.

"Irum, tumhare pair..." Saad's words caught the family's attention, and they gasped loudly, staring at her red feet.

Hassan immediately went to her and picked her up. "Baba mein theek hun," she tried to reassure him, but one glare from him made her stop.

Hassan made her sit on the sofa while Hasseb went to get his bag. "Yeh sab kese hua?" Hassan asked Zayan calmly, but his tone sent shivers down the spines of the three older sons of the family -Zayan, Haider, and Ali.

"W... Woh," Zayan explained everything that happened, making them all glare at Irum.

"Irum agar tumhe chai pene thi to mujhay bata deti mein bana deti" Maheen said.

Irum made an annoying face at Maheen's remark. ""Acha tumhe neend mein chai banani ati hai?!" she replied sarcastically. Maheen shook her head at her question

"Exactly, tum gadhe ghore bach kar so rahi thi to mein kese kehti tumhe chai banane ke liye?" Maheen sighed and facepalmed at Irum's response, but remained quiet.

"Aur Zayan bhai ap ane se pehla warning nahi de skate the, apke wajah se mere sari mehnat zaya ho gai, pure 8 minute lage the chai banane mein" she made an irritated face at him

"pehli baat jo mehnat ker ke apne banaya tha na woh chai nahi thi zeher tha aur dusri baat agar woh ap pe leti to apko food poisoning ho jati" he replied sarcastically

"hein sachi food poisoning ho jati rukein mein abhi aur bana kar lati hun aur Saad ko pilati hun," she grinned happily, while Saad's eyes widened at her evil plans.

and in a split second, she was in the kitchen.

The others were shocked by her behavior. Her feet were badly burned, and if it were anyone else, they wouldn't have been able to move their feet.

But this girl was jumping and running as if nothing had happened.

Hasseb, who had just returned with his bag, saw her running and gently held her, guiding her back to the sofa.

"baith jao bache mujhay medicine lagane do," he said as he sat on the floor and took her feet in his lap.

Irum immediately pulled her feet back. "ap mujhay de dein chachu mein kud laga lun gi," Hasseb shook his head. "kyun mein kyun nahi laga sakta?"

"ap mere baba ki jagah hein mere liye aur mein apki boht izzat karti hun mein apko yeh kam nahi karne de sakti," she said. They all smiled at her innocence.

"mere jaan ab bhi mere apni beti hi ho... apko yeh dawai lagane se apko relief mila ga, aur apne bache ka dard kam karne je liye to mein apni jaan bhi de dun yeh kya cheez hai" he gently made her understand.

She wanted to object, but one glare from her family, and she quietly sat back, allowing him to do his work.

While applying the medicine, Hasseb looked at her in surprise.

He couldn't believe how well she was tolerating the pain because the medicine he was using was known to cause a burning sensation, despite its quick healing properties.

Haider was equally surprised  because Hasseb had used the same medicine on him about a month ago, and he had screamed like a little kid due to the pain.

While, Irum was casually chatting with Maheen as if nothing was happening.

"Saad kuch sekho Irum se, dekho kitne aram se dawai lagwa rahi hai," Haider teasingly said. Saad made an adorable angry face and pouted, acting as if he was upset, which made everyone chuckle.

"Irum, dard nahi ho raha?" Zayan, who was concerned and felt guilty, thinking it was his fault, couldn't help but ask.

"Hayee bhai ap kya jane hamare dard ke bare mein, yeh choti si chot hamre tute huai dil ke age kuch nahi," she dramatically replied placing the back of her hand on her forehead, making all of them laugh.

Everyone took her words as a joke no one understood the pain behind her words... Just like no one ever noticed how her real smile got replaced with a fake smile 3 years ago...

"aur wese bhi bhai ap is Saad ko kya keh rahe hein yeh to hai he pagal," she added. Saad gasped in mock offense.

"Oi chipkali mein pagal nahi hun!" Irum burst into laughter. "Har pagal yahi kehta hai 'mein pagal nahi hun'," she mocked him playfully.
