imagine: loving Sam from afar

He's so pretty... you thought in your head as you stared at your best friend from across the table. Your heart fluttered and you sighed softly. He looked so happy. Poor thing, he deserved a perfect life, even if that mean't you weren't in it.

"Hey y/n, what do you think we're hunting?" Brought you out of your school girl crush mode. You blinked and looked at the two across the booth from you.

"O-oh, I don't r-really know." You stuttered out, internally cursing. Why were you fantasizing about being something more to your friend instead of listening? Sam smiled worriedly at you. Usually you weren't so distracted, he thought something might be up.

"You okay n/n?" He asked you, his voice full of concern and his eyes caring. You nodded before turning back to your plate of pancakes, stabbing at a few softly. Why did you have to fall for a man so out of your league? You looked back up at Sam and saw him still looking at you.

If only he knew what you felt for him.

Three days later...

You sat in the library curled up on the couch and absentmindedly reading Jane Eyre. Your mind was somewhere else, somewhere where a boy had a perfect smile and a perfect heart and he was in love with a girl. That girl was you.

"Hey y/n." You heard from behind you, making you jump slightly. You turned around and breathed out softly.

"You scared me." You whispered, a small smile appearing on your face. Sam chuckled and sat on the arm of the couch. "What did you want?" You ask curiously.

"I wanted to know if you want to come on a food run with me? Dean's lending me Baby, surprisingly, so we can go get food and anything else we need." He smiled at you, and you returned the favour before nodding your head.

"Yeah, I'll come. Just let me get my shoes." You replied, bookmarking your book and getting up. He nodded and headed out of the room, saying he'd wait in the car.

"He's perfect..." You murmured, sighing happily before putting on your shoes and walking to the car.

"So what do we need?" You ask as you buckle up and slam the car door shut gently.

"Just the usual. Salads, pie, burgers, more pie." Sam chuckled before starting up the car and driving to the store. You smiled at him and admired how his hair blew in the wind from the open window.

Just so perfect...

Three months later...

You were envious. Dean wanted to go to a bar and celebrate a job well done, bringing you and Sam along as well. Sam was flirting with a girl. Why can't that be you?

You have no right to be jealous, he's a free man, you thought. Yet still here you were, practically bursting.

"What crawled up your ass and died there?" You turned to Dean, the man who made the comment, and shrugged.

"Nothing. Just a bit uptight today." You lied smoothly. Technically you weren't lying as you'd been stressed with the amount of calls about supernatural beings you were getting. Dean got up from his seat and sat next to you, his eyes following your gaze to the bar where Sam was at.

"Looks like someone's jealous." Dean smirked, wrapping his arm around your shoulders in a friendly gesture. You rolled your eyes and looked down to your glass of cream soda.

"No, I'm not. Just making sure she's not a monster and tries to eat him." You muttered, taking a swig of the orange drink. Dean swayed slightly, making you sway with him.

"I think Sam can handle himself fine if that happens." He laughed, before pulling on a serious face. "But seriously n/n, what's up? You in love with him?"

"Yes." You whispered, hoping he couldn't hear you over the commotion of the bar. Dean leaned in closer to you, his lips pressed against your ear. "What are you doing?" You questioned him, still looking down at your drink.

"There's someone I know who's in love with you, and he'd get mad if he saw us right now." He mumbled into your ear, smirking. You looked up at Sam and saw him looking at the two of you.

"What? No, Sam wouldn't love me like that. He loves me like a friend Dean." You replied, pushing your hair out of your face.

"Just trust me." Was the last thing he whispered before sauntering off to play a game of poker. You exhaled softly and peeked back up at Sam only to see him right in front of you.

"Hey." He muttered distastefully, sitting down in front of you. You furrowed your eyebrows and looked at him.

"What's got Mr. Stanford's panties in a twist?" You joked slightly, looking into his brown eyes.

"There's something I need to tell you later." He looked you in the eyes and smiled softly.

But he never did tell you.

Because he died.

The end.
(Lol just kidding here's the actual ending)

You all arrived back at the motel room, Dean going straight to the bathroom to take a shower. You turned to Sam and tilted your head.

"So, what were you going to tell me?" He smiled and pulled you into his chest.

"This." He whispered, before pulling your lips to his in a soft gesture. The kiss was sweet and gentle, ending quicker than you would've liked.

"I love you, y/n."

I love you too, Sam."

No more waiting for the perfect man,
he was right here in your arms.
