"Sarah, no!" Dan cries out as he rushes over to the toddler who is about to knock over a large stack of books onto the other child.

He scoops the little one into his long arms and carries her to the couch, plopping her down in his sofa crease.

"Now you stay there until I tell you that you can go." His voice is firm, he rests his hands on his hips glaring at the young girl.

Her huge brown eyes are beginning to well with fat tears, her lower lip sticking out in an adorable pout.

"No, no, now don't start that." Dan's look softens as he steps back a bit.

In a matter of seconds the little one begins to cry out, her voice carrying throughout the flat. Her voice is high pitched as she wails, rubbing her big eyes with her fists. Dan panics, raising his arms towards the small one, shuffling on his feet, trying to figure out what to do. In comes Phil. He picks up the young boy that sits across the room and walks over to Dan, who is still frantically flailing about.

"Dan? What's going on?" Phil pats Dan's shoulder with his free arm.

"Sarah was trying to push a huge pile of books onto James, so I sat her in timeout. But now she's crying and I don't know what to do! What do I do, Phil?!" Dan's voice raises a few pitches near the end.

"I don't know! P-pick her up, or something!" Phil is starting to get antsy as well, the young blue-eyed boy clinging to his neck.

"But won't that just defeat the purpose of her being in timeout?!" Dan's face is growing red, the wailing child's voice raising in pitch and volume.

"Daddy, make her stop crying." James, Phil's son, grabs onto his face and looks him in the eyes.

James is almost the spitting image of Phil with piercing blue eyes and shaggy dark hair. Sarah, Dan's daughter, is the spitting image of him, big brown eyes and curly brown hair. The two were born around the same time, James being a few months older than little Sarah. But Sarah makes up for the months in attitude. She is an impish little one who loves getting into mischief. Often times she will prank little James. The two are best friends, but Sarah is definitely a dominant personality. James is such a timid soul. He listens well and likes to play quietly. The two really are an interesting pair.

"We're trying, James." Phil kisses him tenderly on the forehead. "I need to finish cooking dinner or we won't have anything to eat. Maybe, call your wife?" He suggests, turning to walk out of the room.

Dan freezes. He slowly turn to Phil with a wide look on his face.

"Phil, this is the first time the girls have been able to have a girl's night out since the kids were born. I don't want to interrupt their fun." Dan rubs the back of his neck.

"You're just scared that your wife will be upset with you." Phil ads matter-of-factly.

"N-no I'm not." Dan crosses his arms and looks away.

"Yes, Dan, you are. She's not going to be mad. She'll understand." Phil walks out of the room.

This is the first time the two men have watched the children on their own. Their wives went out for a night away, leaving them in charge of the playing, feeding, bathing and putting the children to bed. Everything had been going smoothly, until Sarah decided to try and push the books onto James. Dan and Phil had been so happy, thinking that this was easier than the women had made it out to be. They were wrong. Very wrong.

The little girl is still screaming as Dan dials his wife's number. A few rings, a click and then a tender voice.

"Dan? What is it, honey?" His wife asks worried over the phone.

"Hello, love. Ummm, well, Sarah tried to knock some books over onto James, so I sat her in timeout...but now she won't stop crying. I don't know what to do..." Dan's voice trails off.

His wife just starts laughing. Probably at the fact that Dan is so flustered.

"Honey, just walk out of the room. She'll stop crying in a bit." The mother replies.

Dan realizes that the crying has stopped. He looks towards the couch and sees that the young girl has left the room. With the phone up to his ear still he quietly freaks out. His eyes are wide as he runs around the room, breathing heavily into the phone.

"Dan? Is everything alright?" His wife asks.

"Erm, yah, everything is fi-" Dan stops mid-sentence, his face screwing up in confusion as he sees little Sarah walk back into the room with a large silver ladle in hand. "Sarah, why do you have a ladle?!"

"Dan?"

"No, ow! Sarah, stop hitting daddy with the ladle! OW! Stop!" Dan's voice is high pitched over the phone.

His wife begins to laugh uncontrollably, and eventually hangs up the phone.

A few hours have passed and the children are fed and bathed. The two men carry their little ones to James' room, being that they are at Phil's flat. They lay the sleeping babies into the crib, the two of them immediately cuddling together, like they always do. Dan and Phil look down on their beautiful children. At the end of the day, no matter how difficult they may be, there is nothing but whole hearted love for the little ones. Dan gently reaches down and runs his fingers through Sarah's thin curly hair, beaming with pride. Phil caresses James' cheek. Then both the grown men lean over the crib and place a soft kiss on their children's heads. They turn and walk out of the room.

"Well, today went pretty well I think." Dan rubs his hands together.

"Dan." Phil gives him a look, his eyebrows raised high.

"What?" Dan crosses his arms.

"'No, stop hitting daddy with the ladle!'" Phil mocks Dan's loud cries.

"Oh, shut up!" Dan storms off.

"Wait, wait. Okay, today could have gone worse. But for our first time alone with the kids, we did pretty well." Phil pats Dan on the back.

They share a smile, and then go into the lounge to play video games, waiting for their wives to return home.

Ok so I know this technically isn't about you but just pretend oksies?
