Chapter 10

Seth lead Nova back to the cabin without even looking back. He wasn't used to feeling like this, for so many years he had buried the past as deep as he could. Every since he returned to Killona, the past came back to life. It felt as he was reliving his nightmares all over again.

Worse, was the emotion that ate at him when he saw Nova's face when he found her behind that tree. The image of her fear and defeat would stay with him for the rest of his existence. He had to get away, now.

As the walked up the steps of the cabin he stopped, what could he say to her? I'm sorry I am tricking you for your soul? I have bet your life against my pride? He couldn't say that. So he said nothing, he stood there silent for a moment, before he slowly turned to her.

Nova paused, standing behind him. She could feel his emotions rolling off of him like waves. She didn't know what to do, she didn't know whether to comfort him or yell at him for her world turning upside down. Everything had changed now, everything. One day she was a high school girl, hoping to go to art school, believing in God.

She knew God was alive with her entire heart. She knew her parents were irrevocable proof that there was heaven, they were such good people. They taught her that there was good in everyone, that one life can touch so many. But, she had never thought of the darker side. What would it be like if you grew up with a serial killer? No one to hold you when you cry, to love you?

But, to have your parent to commit such crimes in front of you was worse than all of that. Hearing of what happened to him would stay with her always, how would it be to have lived through day after day? Her own heart cried in pain for him. It didn't matter at the moment what he was, she knew he wasn't human. It didn't matter that he had kidnapped her or why he was here. The only thing that mattered was helping him. No one deserved to suffer like this.

When Seth slowly turned toward her she didn't know what to expect, so when he lifted his hand to her cheek she was a little surprised. His eyes held every emotion, but he didn't say anything as he bent down and brushed a kiss on her temple. She opened her mouth to say something, anything. Before she could form a response he disappeared.

She stood there shocked for a moment, having never seen a person just puff out of thin air. This is getting weirder.

As she opened the door she felt something hit it from the other side. Sarina's hollering finally caught her attention. Oh no, Sarina! She realized she had completely forgotten her sister. She threw open the door ready to defend her sister, but what she saw made her pause.

"You aren't taking me alive!" Sarina yelled as she threw a large bowl at a very tall good looking man, who was grinning like this was the best fun he had had in years.

Nova watched as the man gracefully dodged the bowl, stepping to the side as it smashed out the window. It was like he was mocking Sarina even further with his quickness. Sarina growled angrily while she grabbed the next object, a cast iron pan.

"Dodge this" she spat, as she stormed up to him and prepared to swing. The man laughed outrageously as he watched her. Did he not know she would really hit him with it? There was no telling what Sarina would do when she was this mad.

"Sarina!" Nova interjected, running to grab the frying pan out of her hands. Sarina surprise was evident on her face, as she turned to face Nova.

The object of Sarina's anger took her pause as his moment for revenge. He quickly kissed her cheek and patted her on the bottom. Sarina screeched as she went to hit him hard. But when she would have hit, he was gone.

"Comeback you coward!" Sarina hollered, as she walked around searching wildly for where he went.

"What are you doing Sarina?" she asked as she watched Sarina open a closet door.
