Chapter 30

Raven's POV

Oh my god. Oh my god, this was not happening. My plan had worked all right. Just not as I'd hoped...

"Raven, what the hell is going on?!" Cole demanded...from inside my head. I had somehow managed to suck not only Cole's powers, but Cole himself into my body. So now I had Cole's mind, as well as my own, inside my body. Talk about a headache.

'Just stay calm Raven,' I chanted inside my head, squeezing my already closed eyes even tighter shut.
"Woah, I can hear you now," Cole muttered, his voice awed. Shit. Cole could hear my every thought? "You better believe it honey," Cole said, and I could just imagine that gorgeously obnoxious smirk on his face.
'This isn't fair, how come I can't hear your every thought?!' I whined.

Our conversation was interrupted by a male voice yelling, "Are you even fucking listening to me?!" My eyes blinked open in shock to find Lucius standing tall before me, panting like he'd just run a marathon.
I smirked up at him. "Sorry, can't say that I was."
"You tell him, Raven!" Cole cheered, causing a smile to appear on my face without permission.
"Do you think this is funny?!" Lucius roared, kicking me in the stomach. The breath wheezed out of me as I moaned in pain, my body hunching in on itself as much as the chains would allow. I heard Cole groan in my head.

I hated feeling so useless. Stuck in these chains, I was helpless to retaliate. But with Cole in my head, did I really need to be stuck in the blasted things any longer?

'Cole, I want out of these chains,' I began, my thought deceptively sweet.
"Baby, you know if I could make that happen, I would."
'Maybe you can...'
"What do you mean?"
 Cole demanded sharply.
'If we can focus and combine our powers, then we might be able to over-power the chains. There has to be a limit to the power they can hold, right?' I thought excitedly, still hunched over in my position of pain.

"You're just a pathetic little girl," Lucius sneered, spitting on my head. My face scrunched up in disgust.
'Ewww, demon germs!' Cole laughed inside my head. 'Oh shut up!' I snapped at him. 'Technically, it went on your head too, seeing as you're in my body and all.' I barely managed to suppress the smile that tried to surface when he went silent.

"I'll never be as pathetic as you are," I retorted after a pause; it was hard keeping up two different conversations at the same time.
Lucius laughed. "I'm pathetic?" he asked incredulously. "Says the person all locked up at my mercy!" Cole growled in my head just as I snarled at Lucius aloud. "Because you didn't think you could handle me when I wasn't locked up! You needed to hide behind your little notes and these stupid chains. You fucking coward!"

That wiped the grin right off his face, and damn if I didn't feel smug about it.
'Okay Cole, I'm thinking we should get out of these chains before Lucius over there busts a vein and kills himself before we can.' My eyes flickered over Lucius' scarlet face in amusement, watching as its eyes darkened even more. Its hands clenched by its sides, as if imagining pounding them into me. Then it seemed to be trying to make an effort to calm itself, closing its eyes and breathing deeply. That thing really does have some anger issues.

"On the count of three," Cole said. "One...two... Three!" My eyes closed as I focused all my power on unlocking these blasted chains. I strained like I was constipated, my face turning almost as red as Lucius' with the effort.

I could feel the chains start to weaken under our assault, but kept my eyes tightly closed.
'Just...a little...more!' I gritted out, grinding my teeth together, ramping up the power even more.
"I'm...trying!" I heard Cole groan. I could hear the tension dripping from his words.
'Try harder!"

Then I heard the satisfying sound of both sets of chains unlocking. I let out a gasp as I fell forward onto the floor, just now noticing Cole's limp body, seemingly asleep. His chest rose up and down, despite his comatose state. I felt a pang of worry for him which I had to force myself to push aside. I couldn't afford to get distracted now.

Growling out curses, I lunged for Lucius' legs while it stood there in shock, knocking it to the ground. It gasped in surprise, making a satisfying crash. Not wasting any time, I quickly straddled it, punching it with all my strength while using my electricity and legs to hold it still, grinning when I watched its body jerk repeatedly from my powerful shocks. Blood dribbled down its nose and onto its lips. Tossing me a savage grin, it licked the blood away. I grimaced at the sight, momentarily distracted. That was all it took for the tables to turn.

Using more strength than even a demon should have, it flipped us over. A cry of pain was wrenched from my lips as my back crashed against the solid, unyielding floor.
"Raven!" Cole cried out, pain evident in his voice. He had obviously been jarred from the impact. "Are you alright?"
'Just peachy,' I replied as Lucius' hands locked around my throat, despite the electricity I was giving out.

I clawed at its hands on my throat as it slowly began to cut off my air supply. I looked into those endlessly dark eyes, feeling a primal fear alight from somewhere deep within me.
'I don't want to die," I thought hopelessly as black spots began to dance at the edges of my vision.

"Raven!" someone called from inside my head. "Raven, stay with me!"  But they were too far away to hear properly. Why did they sound so urgent? I felt like I was floating up on a fluffy white cloud in the sky, high enough so all my troubles couldn't reach me.

My struggles became more feeble as I waged an internal war with the overpowering blackness. A war I was quickly losing.
"I can't do it! I can't use my fucking power!'" a foreign voice roared from inside my head. "Raven, please, I can't...I can't lose you!"

I wanted to tell the unknown voice that it was okay. That it wouldn't lose me. But I couldn't muster up any coherent thoughts.

Through blurred eyes, I caught a glimpse of Lucius, grinning a madman's smile. It gazed upon me with such hatred, such loathing, that I couldn't help but welcome the waiting darkness just to get away from it.

Just before I passed out, I heard a yell of fury, followed quickly by a cry of surprise. The hands on my throat vanished, leaving me gasping and spluttering to take in as much oxygen as possible.

But the darkness was too much. It dictated me, completely wiping away my will to stay awake. I could only hope that my saviour was strong enough to survive for the both of us.

***

Okay, wow. I'll admit, when I was writing this, I was chanting, "Don't die Raven!" inside my head. Haha

I'd just like to apologise for the late upload. This weekend was incredibly busy. And unfortunately for you guys, I'm going away on a writing workshop for the weekend, which means no upload :(

I'd also like to apologise for the shortness :( Not much I can do about that I'm afraid. While I have a rough outline of what will happen, i just sorta go with the writing flow with these chapters ;)

But yeah, I'd love to know your thoughts on this chapter. I admit, the beginning of this was kind of iffy, but I think it got better towards the end :) I really hoped you liked it though :) And sorry for any errors! Yeah, i'm kinda sucky like that :(

And with that, I bid thee farewall, and would like to thank y'all for even reading this far, you don't know how much it means to me.
