Chapter 43 - Envious

After a few more drinks we walked down onto the street, and found the closest decent looking cocktail bar that we could find, not wanting to venture too far from my apartment in case something were to happen. The place was called ‘Sunset’ and it was quite nice. The decor was modern, and the drinks weren’t too expensive. They were pumping some awesome beats when we got there too, my favourite Bangarang by Skrillex was playing. Although it kind of reminded me of Will again, it reminded me of the time when I was listening to Skrillex on my iPod, worried about what he’d think of my taste in music on the second day that I’d met him in the cafeteria at college...

“Miranda, you’re thinking about him again, aren’t you?” Ash asked, pulling me from my day dream state.

“Sorry Ash, I can’t help it. Ok, so first round’s on me, I owe you a pizza anyway.” I said, grabbing his hand and leading him to the bar. I ordered two Jaijer Bombes, a strawberry cocktail for me and a beer for him. We made our way over to one of the tall tables and stools and took a seat. We both downed the Jaijer’s, and I quickly moved onto my cocktail, taking large sips, intending to get drunk as soon as possible. I just wanted to let loose and have some fun for once, I was sick of moping around and feeling depressed.

“Wow, slow down there!” Ash pointed out, staring at me wide eyed.

“What?!” I questioned, ignoring his comment and continuing on taking large gulps. After about an hour and a few more rounds, my head was seriously starting to spin. I needed to dance, and I needed to dance now. I stood up and grabbed Ash’s hand, taking him by surprise.

“What are you doing?” He asked, letting me drag him to the dance floor, which was now almost completely crowded with young drunk girls dressed in close to nothing, and a mix of good looking guys showing off their biceps and sleazy looking older predators perving on the younger girls. The song that was now playing was an electro remix of Carly Jepson’s Call me Maybe. It was the cheesiest song, but still, I had a soft spot for it. Every time I heard it I’d feel warm and fuzzy inside. It reminded of being in high school.

I pulled Ash into me and wrapped my arms around his neck, getting him to move with me. “This song is so cheesy Randy, normally I wouldn’t be caught dead dancing to it, but for you, I’d do anything.” He chuckled, throwing me a sarcastically sleazy wink. It just made me giggle back. I knew he was joking, but deep down there was a part of what he said that was probably true. He clearly did care about me otherwise he wouldn’t be spending just about every spare minute with me. I really cared about him too, but mostly as a friend. But of course I felt attracted to him; he had the most incredible eyes and toned body underneath his clothes...I wonder what his abs looked like? I’d never actually seen them...

Oh god. I realised that it was probably the alcohol causing these inappropriate thoughts. I couldn’t help it though. I knew I was still in love with Will, but I couldn’t help but crave affection from someone. And Ash was that someone right now. I sure as hell hoped that I wasn’t right, that this wasn’t a silly crush. My life was already complicated enough, and bringing another boy into that complication was the last thing that I needed.

“You do realise I’ll never be able to pick up like this. People probably already think we’re an item.” He said, smirking wildly at me. I couldn’t help but blush at the idea. It was exceedingly flattering to be seen with Ashton, he was really hot, and I knew that normally when he went out like this he’d be surrounded by gorgeous girls throwing themselves at him.
