After he was freed from his imprisonment in Pensilvania John Laurens was sent to France as an emissary along with Thomas Paine to help Benjamin Franklin get loans to America.
He was an inpatient and unorthodox diplomat and no one is surprised because this is John Laurens who we are talking about.
Six weeks of meetings with no result passed by, but like I just said this is John Fucking Laurens who we are talking about so he took the matter on his own hands and and went directly to the king of France. At a royal reception where guests were expected to do little more than pay their respects to the French monarch Laurens went and asked for a loan.
He made some people upset which is like a hobby for Laurens at this point but he secured the money. By August of 1781 he returned to America with two ships full of military supplies and 10 million livres, just in time for the Battle of Yorktown.
And so my question is,
