《 The Reckoning 》

"You aren't dead, you know"

I whirled around, a voice filling up the blackness in my head.
"What?" I asked the voice.

"You aren't dead Diana, this is just the transition"

"Transition?"

"You're part vampire Diana, your body is healing"

"Who are you?"

"I am no body, I am everybody, I'm the thoughts in your head and the blackness at the end of your dreams.." The voice trailed off.

"That doesn't answer my question" I said, whirling around again.

I heard footsteps as if they were walking on glass. I turned around again and a man stood with his hands entwined. "Hello Diana" the man said.

He appeared to be bright, I almost had to shield my eyes from him. He had golden hair that fell to his shoulders. He had a strong jaw and blue eyes. He smiled slightly, his teeth sparkling.
"Who are you?" I asked, crossing my arms.

"I am Braemar, you could say I've been watching over you" he said, tilting his head towards me.

"So what? Angels are real now?" I asked as Braemar stepped closer.

"I'm no angel, I am a figment of your thoughts" he said, as he stood in front of me.

"I created you in my thoughts?" I asked as the question seemed to echo.

He reached up and stroked my cheek with the back of his finger. I froze. "Don't be sad, you aren't dying" he whispered.

He reached down and took my hand. "Dance with me" he said softly.

I frowned. "What?" I asked as he pulled me closer.

He started to dance us back and forth before soon we were waltzing around the black emptiness. His eyes peered into mine and the closer I looked, the more I saw moving images.

I looked up as the several coloured lights filled the void. "You're seeing memories, memories that mean the most to you" he said, twirling me under his arm.

I focused on a memory, it was Marcus and I when we made it to Faerieland. Our lips were joined and Braemar moved again, my eyes darting to each image.

V, Casey and I eating ice cream and laughing. Austin and I dancing at his Cabin.
Juilan revealing himself as Taron, my brother.
Sitting beside my mother as she died.
Standing in front of the crowd of Fae, as Saorise placed the crown upon my head.

"You've been through so much" Braemar said.

I focused on him again as we stopped dancing. The images disappeared. He pulled away as the blackness drew around us again. "It seems you are almost awake" he said, looking off into the distance.

"Wait, what do I do?" I asked as Braemar drew away from me.

He grinned. "You're the Queen Diana, I'm sure you can figure it out" he said.

"I may be a Queen, but I don't know what to do, I'm lost and I have no guidance" I said, stepping forward as Braemar kept walking backwards.

"You will be great" he said giving me a smile before the blackness took him.

"Braemar!" I yelled out.

"Goodbye Diana" he said as his voice and body faded away from view.

I turned around and saw a line of light rushing across the ground towards me. I swallowed deeply.

"She's waking" I heard someone say.

I felt a strange sensation as if I was being pushed into a tiny spot. As if someone pinched me, my eyes shot open and I immediately shied away from the light.

I felt the roughness of the asphalt underneath me and focused on the people around me. Austin was holding my hand and Taron half held me up in his lap. I studied each and everyone one of them as if I hadn't seen them in years.

"Diana?" Austin asked.

He was afraid. I could sense it. "Austin?" I asked.

He didn't waste a moment to pull me into a hug, throwing his arms around me. I hugged him back and he pulled away as my brother hugged me. "Welcome back" Taron whispered.

I glanced around, sitting up with the help of my brother. "What happened?" I asked, rubbing my neck.

I winced as I felt the soreness. Taron glanced at Austin. "You were attacked by a vampire" he said, looking away guiltily.

"What?" I asked confused.

"Who?" I asked.

Keian and Taron looked at Austin who just shook his head. "That doesn't matter, what matters is that you're okay" he said, giving me a hesitant smile.

"Who was it Austin?" I asked, glaring at him.

He took a deep breath. "Marcus" he replied, falling back onto the ground.

My breath caught and lifted my hand up to reach for my neck again. "After the Consul showed up, he ran for it" Taron continued.

"The Consul showed up? Where are they?" I asked, getting back to the matter at hand.

"They're dead, Austin killed them, with the staff of course" Taron added, nodding his head to a few feet away.

The staff lay in the ground, covered by ash. "The rest of the Vampires followed Marcus and made a run for it" Keian added in.

I glanced at the werewolf. "You saved us?" I asked.

Austin just gave me a grim look. "You saved us" I said, moving out of Taron's reach.

I grasped Austin's jacket and pulled him towards me, hugging him. I heard him take a deep breath. "I'm sorry I wasn't there to save you sooner" he said, as his head rested on my shoulder.

"Don't be, I left you in Faerieland, you saved me" I said, pulling back slightly.

Taron and Keian stood up, grabbing each other's hands and walked a little ways away so I could talk to Austin. "Yes, you and I will have to have a discussion about leavi-" Austin was cut off as I pressed my lips to his.

He gave up in defeat and kissed me back, pulling me towards him. I tried to remember what happened to me while I was healing but nothing showed. I only remembered one thing.

"You're a Queen, Diana, I'm sure you can figure it out"
