Chapter 9: Pride & Guilt

~Alli~

I poke one eye out behind the curtain in the living room which gives the view of our garage outside, and by our garage, you’ll see Derek Santiago fixing my father’s car. He’s sitting down on a small chair, wiping off the grease on some parts of the car’s machine with a piece of cloth. He bit his lip while banging his head a little along to the music that’s playing onto his earphones.

Hindi ako makapaniwala! It’s just too good to be true that he’s here.

My eyes concentrated onto his face; eyes are focused on to what he is doing. I never realized that his dark brown eyes makes it too obvious when exposed to the sunlight, which it makes it more attractive and really sexy. His arms, oh his arms. Muscles are seen and it’s pretty obvious he goes to the gym. I looked at him once more and…

Shoot! Nakita niya ko! I duck down and bury my face into my hands, I can feel my cheeks burning from embarrassment.

What am I doing? First, it was the viral the photo of Derek and I kissing at prom. Second, he’s here at my house, pretending like nothing happened between us last night! Third, he’s going to be here for the next days of my frickin’ summer! Fourth, it’s Tyler. No text, no calls, no nothing. He left me without a word from him since nung prom!

Maybe...

Maybe yes, maybe no.

Nakakainis! Si Derek ang may kasalanan nito lahat eh! It’s because of him dahil doon sa picture na yon! It’s because of him dahil nasira niya yung kotse ni papa! It’s because of him why I am now stuck here at home with Derek within the whole summer! It’s because of him why I’m acting like this; angry, irritated, confused. At not to mention ang init na ng ulo ko! Speaking of ang init ng ulo, ang intit na rin ng panahon ngayon. Ugh, I’ll probably shower again later. Bakit ba sobrang init sa Pilipinas?

“Alli, pupunta si Auntie Eugene.” Sabi ni Kuya Angelo sa taas.

“Si Auntie Eugene?” I shrieked, “Yay! Si Auntie Eugene!”

She’s mom’s older sister. She’s been like a mother to me, since I’m the only inside the house she knows what’s best for me as a girl. I think she’s 35? It’s been a long time we haven’t seen each other because she lives in Makati with her husband.

“Anong oras pa siya makaka-punta?” I asked.

“Bukas pa.”

“Bukas? W-wait, wait, wait!” Bigla kong hinarang si kuya nung pababa na siya ng stairs, noticing that he’s wearing his McDonald’s uniform. “San ka pupunta?”

“Uh, sa McDo para mag trabaho, saan pa ba?” Kuya says, habbang nilalagay yung I.D. niya and biglang tingin sa relos. “Okay, okay ma-lalate pa ko!”

“Kuya, iiwan mo ko dito?” I whispered, aware that Derek might hear me.

“Oo.” He goes to the left then I swiftly blocked my arm.

“Ako at si Derek lang?” I ask, he goes to the right, and I quickly blocked his way.

“Oo!” He scratches his neck as a sign of irritation.
