Chapter 13: Extreme & Highly Dangerous

~Alli~

Tianggean Ng Bayan?

“Sa tianggean mo ko dadalhin?” I told Derek, having no idea why are we in this place. I was expecting that he’s going to take me to a park or somewhere we could eat lunch (Though my appetite is dead at the moment), I never thought about this place and this is the last thing on my list of places that I want to go right now and not to mention, I’m not even in the mood to go anywhere outside right now because of what I just found out about Tyler. All I want to do is stay inside my room all day, watching movies with a gallon of vanilla ice cream and cry my eyes out.

“Opo, Ms. Prieto.” Derek says.

“Anong gagawin natin dito?” I asked him.

“Ano pa ba, edi to have fun.”

“Fun?” I said, in an irritated tone. “Derek, kumain ka na lang, tapos uwi na tayo.”

“Ha? Wag ka ngang KJ!”

“I’m not being KJ, I’m just not in the mood right now, okay?”

I’m just not in the mood right now…” Derek says, mocking my voice.

“Hoy, hindi ako ganyan magsalita!”

“Oo na! Oo na!” Derek chuckles. “Oh tara, wag ka nang maarte.”

“Ate, kuya! Bili-bili na po kayo!”

“Ate oh, DbiD...”

“Silber o gold, kuya?”

I’ve been living in Manila for fifteen years and for all my life, I’ve never been in this place. This place has everything; from clothing and food bazaars to materials for…I don’t know, everything! Materials for costumes, building homes, furniture, etc. Daig pa nila ang mall malapit dito actually. I’ve never been into this place but I’ve heard it before for a lot of times from my friends that when every time they need a certain thing that they can’t find it anywhere, someone would reply, “Sa Tianggean Ng Bayan meron!”

I can tell Derek has been in this place for a lot of times, almost everyone here knows him. Everyone knows Derek Santiago, I guess he’s not only famous at school, he’s known everywhere. Derek gets the fame that he wants simply by his charm for girls, his looks and of course, his reputation of a bad boy attitude. It feels a bit awkward though, walking with someone so popular while I, Allison Prieto, have no idea who are these people. Almost everyone in here knows his name.  And by everyone, it means different people...

The street vendors,

"Anak ng tokwa naman oh! Si Santiago pala to!"

"Iho, ikamusta mo ko sa mama mo ah."

An old man who looks like a criminal,

"Shet, humaba na bangs ni Derek!"

One even has two Red Horse beers in his hands, with countless tattoos on his arms

"Kelan ka mag ra-race ulet, tol?"

"Miss ka na ng mga chicks mo dun ah."

A group of children who’s been playing at a small corner,

"Kuya Derek! Kuya Derek!"

At that moment, somehow I realized something I never thought about Derek Santiago. I realized that this guy is down to earth even he’s got a big ego sometimes. He knows how to get along with different kinds of people, it doesn’t matter if the person is rich or poor, bata man o matanda, as long as the person has respect to him, then Derek would respect him back.
