Chapter Seventeen

Innocent

"What do you think they're saying?" I whisper. Stiles and I are currently hiding behind a pole, trying to hear what our dad is saying. Someone was murdered last night...or Sacrificed.

"Shh." Stiles shushed me quickly. I rolled my eyes and tried to make out what he was saying. Nothing, I can't hear a thing. His eyes find ours and we instantly turn, trying to slink away.

"Hey! Hey, hey, hey. Back it up, you two." I turn and shoot my dad an innocent smile. "Hey, dad." He smiles at me, then looks between the two of us. His eyes land on Stiles. "I know what you're thinking."

"I know you've got all these ideas about patterns and people dying in threes." I scoff at that and my dad raises a brow at me, probably not expecting me to be so into this too.

"Dad, they're being murdered." Stiles nods along with me, "Sacrificed actually." He adds. Dad sighs but doesn't argue. "I've got half the state, including the FBI, coming in on this." I flinch, FBI like Scott's dad? That's not going to be good.

"They're not getting away with killing one of our own." Tara was killed...what if that's the next pattern. I look at my dad warily. What if he's next? "Tara's dead, dad." I feel tears welling in my eyes.

"How many times did she help me with my math homework when I had to wait at the station with you? Or help Tori with her drawings?" Stiles had this sad look on his face, I nod at him sadly and grab his hand. My head leans on his shoulder comfortingly.

Our dad sighs, you can see on his face how broken up he is about this. "Just get to class, okay?" He then turns and walks off. I send a small smile up to Stiles. "We'll figure it out. We'll find who did this."

I should've known. The murder happened at the school... How were we so blind? She's new to town, I mean it makes sense that she's a suspect.

Tears stream down my face in a mixture of fear and frustration. I was gagged and tied down to a chair, I felt so vulnerable. Jennifer left the room a couple minutes ago, to do god knows what. I have to find a way out, before she gets back.

My eyes scan the room, but I come up with nothing. If I can get my hands untied then I can get out, I can't just wait for Scott. He could be too late.

I almost cry with joy as I remember something, something so very very important.

Allison holds out a dagger, it's small and silver. I eye it skeptically. "What's that for?" I ask, taking it in my hands and turning it over a couple times. The Argent symbol is engraved on the side of the blade.

"Scott thinks you should have something to protect yourself, and I agree. With this Darach running around, we all need to be able to protect ourselves." I sigh as I slip it into the back pocket of my jeans. "Fine, I guess you have a point."

Thank god Jennifer chose these jeans...now, if only I can reach the blade. I struggle against the ropes and chair to reach my back pocket. "Ugh!" I cry out. I have to do this, I can't die. I won't let them die.

I reach again, my wrists begin to burn from rubbing hard against the ropes. My fingers ache as I try and stretch them as far as I can. It's no use, I can't reach it. Why, why, why? Why did she take me? What could she possibly need with me?

I'm of no importance, what kind of sacrifice requires a pregnant teen? Not one that I know of. I look up at the ceiling, my eyes are blurry from crying. Please someone, save me.
