{19} Debt Repaid

The cuddly panda bear called to Y/N, yet her hunger begged for sustenance. Her 8 year old eyes began to water as she realised she had no money for either.
This school trip sucked.

Standing in the middle of the zoo's gift shop crying, the young girl didn't notice her classmate, Newt, walking towards her.
Holding out a bar of chocolate, he said "Here."

Glancing up with red eyes, Y/N simply sniffed and asked "What?"

"It's for you. I know you forgot your money and wanted this, so I got it. Mummy says I should always be kind to people. Especially your friends."

Graciously taking the chocolate bar with young hands, Y/N replied "Are we friends Newt?". She tilted her head like a confused puppy, and her wide questioning eyes only added to this appearance.

"I want to be your friend," he shrugged, "Do you wanna be mine?"

With the simplicity of youth, she simply nodded in reply before trotting off after him to join the group that called themselves the 'Gladers'. No one really knew where the name came from, not even the boys themselves; but it didn't matter, from that moment on, Y/N was never without company.

After Newt and Y/N started dating at the age of 16, every year on their anniversary, she would buy him that same chocolate bar.
She said it was repaying her debt- he simply liked the chocolate.

Of course, after 7 years of this tradition, Newt felt it best to one-up her.
His gift that year was a diamond encrusted ring, and the next year's gift together was their wedding day.
