This little chapter is a one-time thing to give you an idea of another perspective's outcome from the happenings of the previous chapter. I know it's a little strange, just bear with it 😊

Tara had just expected some fun when she told Rebecca Woods to kiss Colby Brock. She didn't believe that she was his One, no matter how fresh in her mind the power surge memory was. She just couldn't believe it, because she knew Colby was too evil to be granted a One. Not so much evil as cruel, but still enough to warrant him unworthy. Yet, even she had to admit that when Rebecca bravely stole his drink, finished it, grabbed him, and kissed him, she had never seen a better coupling. They looked right with one another, their bodies touching. Their feelings could be felt all around the room — from the kitchen to the living room to even outside.

Since Tara hadn't expected much, when Rebecca got close, she spoke aloud for all of the clan to hear. "Come to the hallway! Quick."

The fake distress in her voice had Jake in there first, but they all made it just before Rebecca kissed Colby. And not one of their jaws remained in place.

Sam stared at the man he considered his brother with wide eyes and an open mouth. He was closest; he could feel how Rebecca and Colby were getting into it within the first half a second of the kiss. And if you looked close enough at Colby, you'd see that he wasn't grabbing her like he grabbed every other girl, he held her by her waist with just one hand, the other hovering by her other hip, unsure.

Colby Brock unsure about a girl was unheard of in their circle. And when he pulled her in closer, it seemed that those who didn't yet know who Rebecca was lost their jaws altogether. That was something Colby didn't do either. This time, he was different, feeling for her rather than lusting, if only for a second.

Sam recovered first out of all of the clan in the room, and he saw the tight grip Colby had on Rebecca's lower back. Sam knew from experience exactly what he was feeling, but Rebecca didn't know about vampires like Katrina and Xepher had. It was dangerous for her. It was like she could sense it because she pulled back, just a little. It looked more like she wanted to breathe. And she did, for a second. Colby pushed her against the wall, but this time, Sam didn't feel the longing in Colby for Rebecca, he saw the changing of Colby's eyes right in front of her. He saw the muscles of Colby's arms getting stiffer. He saw the black starting to appear on his upper cheeks.

And, reasonably, he panicked. He moved up and touched Colby on his shoulder to break him from his shifting. If he did it now, he would kill Rebecca. She needed more of a chance than that.

Colby broke from the gaze, but only after Sam spoke. "You're hungry, you need to feed." He was too quiet for others. Much too quiet. Colby heard him and looked over before barely nodding. They walked off, leaving a slightly stunned, slightly dazed, slightly angry Rebecca behind.

Of everything, she was mostly confused. And so was Colby.
