"Close your eyes. Fall in love. Stay there." -Rumi

Izhar

I surreptitiously watched her from over the glazed rim of my coffee cup as she fidgeted in her seat. Her stature was unusually slumped, her perfectly curved back sliding along the vertebral column of the posh chair one minute and in the next, her spine straightened against the dark black leather.

Her svelte fingers that could make one lose their mind in a thousand different ways with one gesture or touch played with the crocheted hem of her ballet slipper pink chiffon dupatta. She twisted and turned the fabric between the grooves of her lissome finger, and the soft fabric willowed at her gentle touch.

I could hear the emerald, sapphire, and ruby gems on the anklets around her feet brush against one another in an attempt to seek comfort. They sat just above the hollow of her pale ankles that gleamed with shyness from the pink under her soles.

Her hair cascaded like melted chocolate around the fragile curl of her shoulders as they shook in reverberance. One side was moved out of the way with a small black clip, twisting and tumbling in the most luscious waves as they framed her heart-shaped face. Her eyebrows were drawn in as they spoke to each other in hushed tones about what the mind couldn't understand as it consolidated the heart in its internal war.

She suddenly dropped one end of the rebellious dupatta in her lap and tightly held onto the edge of her seat instead. The single bangles donning the hilts of her slim wrists screamed in protest as they dug into the soft fabric of the chair.

Her large almond shaped eyes looked everywhere except towards me, and my mind instantly craved her undivided attention just from the mere thought.

I sat my coffee cup down as the smell of the dark roasted beans brewed in my nostrils. I looked around the dining room and no one was in hearing range, so I slowly leaned in and crossed my lean forearms on the cool glass top of the wide dining table. I turned my head to the side with a small unknown smile gracing my lips.

"Nour?" I called under my breath so no one could hear, but it was enough to make her eyes dilate and turn towards me.

Finally.

My small smile enlarged at the success as her twinkling coffee eyes met mine. They were swimming with a myriad of emotions that I wanted to capture, but there was little time before she enchanted my mind and filled into every pore of my skin.

"Ji (yes)?" her head came up, and she answered in her soft and harmonious voice. The strings of my heart instantly thrummed inside of me as my drunken desire for her became unbearable.

Her raspberry tainted lips were pursed with agitation as her prior thoughts evaded every corner of her mind. I wanted to know what was bothering her, as she'd hum them in the capricious night, her suave skin against the roughness of my jaw.

"Come upstairs for a bit?" I asked in all seriousness as I gestured towards the east staircase in my parent's house.

We were over for the weekend, and it was the first time we'd come over after attending Kabir's wedding two weeks ago. I'd just come back from work, and had a small snack with a cup of coffee while everyone was attending their own work. The house was quiet enough since Imaan and Sahar were out in the garden and with Baba in a virtual conference meeting, Ammi was talking to Dadi jaan on the phone in the living room. Huda Appi was readying her dessert for the night, and Zargham Bhai was out of state for a conference.
