EDITED

"Hey, are you alright?" His words, now directed at her, pulled her out of her thoughts. She nodded, not looking at him.

"Yeah, I was just...listening to you." She said, trying to not sound upset.

"I don't know why I am telling you all this. I have never said something like this to anyone." He chuckled and she didn't say anything. "But it feels good to finally say this out loud."

"Yes. You know what, I should be leaving now." Sonia said and stood up. She turned away and quickly wiped her unshed tears. "It's getting really late now."

"Oh yes. It's almost ten." He said, looking at the time on his phone. "I will drop you."

"No." She shook her head and turned to face him. "I have a car."

"Oh, okay. Then I'll wait for you to pack up." He said but she shook her head and took the mug from him.

"It's fine, you should go, there's no need to wait." She shrugged and started walking towards the office.

"I possibly cannot leave you alone here at this hour. Take your time, I will be at the gate." Saying so, he walked towards the gate, which was just a few steps away from her office.

She hurried inside and put the mugs on the table. Breathing heavily and trying not to cry as his previous words floated in her mind, she took her belongings, switched off the lights and locked the door before walking to her car.

Drago stood there, looking at his phone. She put her bag inside the car and turned to him.

"You can leave now." She tried to smile but he shook his head.

"You should leave first." He said and she sighed before sitting inside. As soon as she started the car, she heard him knock on her window.

"Yes?" She asked.

"Can you give me your number?" He asked and she could see the slight nervousness on his face.

"Why?" Was all she could say.

"Because we are friends, right?" He asked slowly and she gulped.

"Yeah. I guess we are." She smiled, feeling a warmth in her chest. She gave him her number and he, with a grin, saved it.

"I'll call you." He said and she nodded with a smile before starting to drive.

The tears started as soon as she turned on the road and didn't stop until she reached the apartment. Running up the stairs, she quickly opened the door and walked inside after shutting it behind her.

Her silent sobs soon turned into cries as she tried to stop herself.

Why was she crying so much? For what? For literally nothing! It was never anything, her feelings, they were nothing! So why was it that she felt like weeping and mourning at the same time? Just two days ago, she was perfectly fine and now, in less than twenty-four hours, it suddenly felt as if her whole world had came crashing down? All because of these stupid feelings which didn't even exist a day ago! And now, in just a day's time, they had turned her senseless crush into an unrequited love!

How could this be possible? No, this could not be possible. This could not be love. This was not love. It couldn't be!

"No, no, it's not...it's not." She said to herself after crying her heart out for two hours. "I don't...love him. I just...liked him. And he is...in actual love with...someone else...and that is making...me sad. That's it. Yes, that's it!" She nodded to herself and stood up, wiping her tears.

Walking to the washroom with wobbly legs, she washed her face and looked in the mirror. Her whole face appeared pink and eyes were bloodshot. She wiped her face and changed her clothes slowly before going into kitchen. She heated her dinner and took the plate on table, where her bag lay.

"I should message Mom and tell her I am home." She thought and took out her phone, only to find three missed calls and four messages from an unknown number.

Have you reached?

Hey, have you reached?

Are you home yet?

Hey? Have you reached home?

She frowned as she typed her reply.

Who's this?

The reply came almost immediately.

It's Drago.

Are you home?

She waited a moment before replying.

Yes, I reached.

Anything important?

He replied the next minute.

No, I called you after half an hour but you didn't pick, so I felt concerned.

She smiled and sighed.

Sorry I missed the calls. I fell asleep as soon as I reached.

She started eating as his reply came.

I thought as much. I almost drove to your place tonight, to see if you reached but then didn't.

She chuckled.

Thanks for the concern. I am having my dinner right now, will talk later.

Bye!

She quickly put the phone away as soon as she read his reply.

Goodnight.

Drago sighed as he answered and put his phone on the table. To say he was worried for her was probably an understatement. His heart was almost out of his chest when Sonia hadn't replied to his messages or picked his calls after half an hour, till when she was supposed to reach her apartment. He had no idea what came up to him when he had run to the garage, took his car and drove to her place around eleven pm. Only when he had seen her car parked down and the lights at her place switched on did he feel relieved. But he couldn't possibly tell her this, she would find this disturbing!

But then, why did he do that? Yes, she's his friend so he was naturally worried about her but what surprised him was that the worry was such that it ate his mind and his hands had turned sweaty when she failed to pick the call the third time and he had just rushed out it in his pyjamas!

What the hell was happening with him?
