My dad woke me up at 7 AM, “The movers will be here in an hour. I want everything packed up in the bed of the trucks so the movers only have to load the big items into their truck.”

I threw my pillow at him before jumping out of bed, “How are we getting to wherever it is that we’re moving to? Am I just gonna follow you?”

“No I got a trailer we can put your truck on so this way we don’t lose each other.”  He said before walking out of my bedroom.

I quickly threw on a pair of short shorts and a t-shirt along with cowboy boots that I left out to wear today. Picking up a box I headed downstairs. As I sat my box in the bed of my truck Melissa ran up and hugged me.

I turned around and hugged her back before pulling away, “Melissa I have to get all the boxes out of the house now.”

“I know, I know. Here I’ll help you guys.” Melissa ran inside and started bringing boxes out.

I hadn’t realized when I walked out that Melissa’s dad, mom and two older brothers’ were helping us out. I almost cried at the sight until Dustin elbowed me.

“Hey what where you’re going Dusty,” I called out to him.

We both started laughing because nobody ever called him Dusty anymore.

“I’ll miss you Ken.” He said before he wrapped me up in one of his famous bear hugs.

Tears had started to form as I hugged him back. To be honest I’ve always had a crush on Dustin but I know that he only saw me as either his little sister or Melissa’s annoying best friend.

He set me back down on the ground and let go of me. I figured I should probably tell him now since nobody’s around and what was the point in keeping it to myself anymore? There wasn’t a point.

“Hey Dustin, can I tell you something?” I hope that he wouldn’t be offended by what I was about to say.

“Shoot Ken, what’s on your mind?” he said casually leaning against my Chevy.

“Okay well since I was about eight and I guess you would’ve been Mitchell’s age,” he cringed when I brought up my brother. They were best friends growing up. When he died we both locked ourselves in our tree house and just cried our eyes out. He was the only person who really knew the pain I was going through and never one did he blame me for his death.

“Continue.” He said pulling me out of my thoughts.

I took a deep breath and just spit it out, “I developed a crush on you when about eight and I didn’t go away until I met Damon. Well that’s a lie it didn’t go away until two years after I met Damon.”

He chuckled a bit and said, “After Mitchell left and we locked ourselves in the tree house and cried together and went over our favorite memories about him, that’s when I developed a crush on you.” He ruffled his hair with his hands and then continued, “When Damon came into the picture I became really jealous and being with other girls took my mind off of you.”

I couldn’t help but blush, Dustin had a crush on me. We had a crush on each other but never told one another.

I was about to say something when everyone piled out of the house.

“Thanks for the help you two!” Zach yelled carry what I assumed was the last box out of the house.

All I did was stick my tongue out at him. Everyone started laughing at my gesture. Zach dropped the box in my dad’s Chevy and came after me.

“EEP!” I screamed and started to run away.

I didn’t make I very far when grabbed me by my waist and threw me over his shoulder. This was usually how our relationship was. I made fun of him and he attacked me. I never knew what he was going to do but this time I was sad because it’d be the last time we’d ever do this.

I started crying and my tears had soaked his shirt. He had stopped walking and called over his shoulder to me, “are you crying?”

“Shut up!” I said between breaths and punched his back.

He started laughing and then set me down on the ground. I wiped my tears away from my face but I just couldn’t stop the ones that were falling. Zach wrapped his arms around me and stroked my hair.

“Calm down Ken, you’ll be fine and everybody will love you.” He pulled away and looked at me, “We’ll see you all the time. We’ll come visit and you’ll come back here to see us, I promise.”

I smiled at him before wrapping him in another hug. That’s when Cade ran over to us and started punching Zach.

“NO! That’s my Kendall!” Everybody couldn’t help but laugh. He was an adorable four year old.

I bent down and picked him up. I embraced him in a hug and the Zach joined in. Before I knew the entire Anderson family and I were wrapped up in one giant group hug.

When a honk startled us the hug broke and that’s when we saw the moving truck behind us. We all stepped out of the driveway and into the grass over where my father was.

I decided that it would be best to say goodbye now and then leave so it doesn’t get any harder later on. I hugged each of them one by one and told them how much I would miss them.

Dustin was the last one, “I’ll miss you so much Ken.”

He pulled away and kissed my cheek. Before walking away he winked at me. I couldn’t help but laugh.

“Aright kid-o you ready to get going?” my dad asked me after he finished hooking my Chevy up to the trailer.

“Don’t we have to wait for the movers?” I questioned.

My dad chuckled at me, “The movers finished already. They only grabbed the sofa and the televisions.”

I was confused as to why they didn’t grab everything else, “What about our beds and stuff?”

“We’ll buy new ones when we get there, now let’s go.” My dad was an impatient person.

I looked back at my best friend and my second family. I hugged them all again and said goodbye one last time, with tears in my eyes I jumped in my dad’s truck. As we headed out of the driveway I waved my goodbyes to them.

Tears were falling down my face, “I love you guys!” I yelled before we were halfway down the neighborhood.

Well here we go, off to my new life.
