“Alright?” Jared asked, disgustingly nervous as he got into Isaac’s car on the first day back at school. He wanted to scream, ‘why the hell did you just cut me off like that, like I’m some toy you can dump when it’s not working for you any more??!!’. Isaac said,
“Yeah, I’m alright.”
“Cool,” said Jared, thinking, ‘FUCK YOU YOU FUCKING ARSEHOLE WHY AM I STILL SO FUCKING WORRIED ABOUT YOU WHEN YOU DON’T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT ME, IT’S FUCKING UNFAIR AND I HATE IT, FUCK YOU’. But he didn’t voice any of his thoughts. He was leaving the silence open for Isaac to explain, for Isaac to tell him it was all just a big misunderstanding and then give him that smile like it was only the two of them in the world.
Instead Isaac just turned the music up.

Willa texted him in school, just a random question about something they’d spoken of a couple of days ago. He was about to reply when a sudden wave of resentment overcame him, a sudden wave of ‘why you that he’ll see, why not me, how come you get everything I want?!’. He knew it wasn’t fair on Willa and it wasn’t her fault, but he didn’t reply for the rest of the day anyway- because if he had done he was pretty sure his answer would’ve been unfairly snappy.
