A Fly Buzzing Around My Ear

"How do you know the crown prince of an empire, anyway?" Ax probed me for answers. We were sitting on my bed in my space, getting ready for bed, when Ax posed this question.

"Well... my 'friend', Alice... I don't know if you've heard of her before... there are a lot of Alice's in the world... Anyway, she approached the crown prince once."

And so began my story.

Have you ever heard of the Cimaru Summit before? That year, it was hosted by the imperial family of the Xenithan Empire. The Cimaru Summit was a gathering for all of the kingdoms and empires of the continent. And that year, twelve year old Alice was brought along with her father and mother to attend it.

"Who's Alice?"

"Shush. I'm in the middle of a dramatic story, stop interrupting."

Alice was a prodigy. Actually, that was too much of an understatement. She was an angel, sent down in this world by the goddess herself.

"Hey, Nova, isn't that too much of an overstatement? No matter how dramatic of a story it is, thats-"

"No, it's true. She was sent down to this world by the goddess."

Alice learnt to read at six weeks old. She used magic when she was two weeks old, and she was a proper noble lady when she was three years old. She was beautiful, caring, kind, considerate, and powerful as hell. She could take down armies with a flick of her wrist, if she chose to.

"I've heard of an Alice in our kingdom. She's a daughter of a duke. Is that who you're referring to?"

"Wow, you're quick to catch on. Yes, she's that Alice, the prodigy of the century. Anyways, back to my story which you have been so rudely interrupting."

So, when her father went to her study to tell her that she was going to attend the summit with him, at such an early age, she wasn't surprised.

They arrived at the empire a few weeks later. They greeted the emperor, and, after mingling with the nobles at a ball before the summit, they went to their quarters to retire for the night.

But Alice still wanted to gain connections with others. She was the heir to the Novea House, it was only natural that she should be well-prepared and begin to plan for her future. Thus, she snuck out while her father was sleeping to go back to the ball.

Alice gained many connections that night because of her sociable and graceful persona when she was talking to the kid nobles, and she was satisfied with her network in the empire of Xenith. So, she went to the garden to celebrate. And that's when she saw... him. Flowing black hair, shining golden eyes. She was instantly enthralled by-

"Hey dude, just listen, and shut up, 'kay? You're the one who asked me about this, so if you don't zip your fucking mouth, I'm gonna-"
