16. Break this down!

I was tackled and to my surprise Uma was lying next to me.
"What the f*ck are you doing?!" she shouted furiously.
"Uma?"
She stood up and looked at me menacingly.
"If you touch the barrier -"
"- you die." I said.
Uma looked at me confused and I got up too.
"If you know that why did you want to do that?"
"When I'm here I'll never see Mal and stuff again. But if I had been there, I would never see my family and you again. I can't be anywhere without hurting someone or hurting myself."
Uma looked at me dazed.
"Auradon made you really sensitive," she finally said.
"Why did you stop me?"
"Huh?"
"If you hadn't stopped me, I'd be dead now. Why did you stop me?"
"Gil told me that you were..."
"Oh. That's why..."
She looked away and I sighed.
"Sorry Uma... You know I like Mal..."
"You'll never see her again!"
"Thank you for reminding me!" I said angrily.
Uma saw that I was looking at the barrier again.
"Don't you dare!" she hissed.
I looked at her furiously.
"Or else what? Are you going to kill me? Seems unlikely to me. Will you lock me up? Be my guest! I don't care anymore!"
Uma looked away.
"So you would abandon Cj?"
I fell silent.
Cj... The last few days I only thought about Mal and that I was being rammed into each other... Cj, damn I forgot about her. How could I  do that!?
Uma looked at me.
"And she calls you a good big brother. Don't make me laugh."
I turned around and walked back towards the Hook house.
Uma was right... I couldn't let Cj down. Not again...

The next day the TV turned on again. There was a news message that we had to/could watch.
I didn't care. And it looks like father and Harriette felt the same way.
Only Cj looked.
"Harry, look! Mal is on the news!"
Within a few seconds I was standing next to her.
She was standing next to Ben, ouch...
Ben looked towards 'us' and sighed.
"We have had a long consultation with the most important people in Auradon and Mal has an announcement as a result."
"Yes, it's finally that far and -"
The TV went down and I rolled my eyes.
"Let me guess, is she going to marry Ben anyway. Damn it!"
"You don't know. And why would they stand at the bridge?"
"I don't now..."
Cj's face cleared up.
"I have to look for Zevon. He can figure it out."
"Speaking of Zevon... How's t going between the two of you?"
"Bye!" she said quickly and sprinted away.
I had lost Mal... That was clear...

The next day was slow. Until the TV flew back on.
Me, Cj and Harriette walked there quickly.
Ben and Mal appeared on the screen.
"We are calling on all VK's to come out. Now it's time!"
The TV went out again and I looked at my sisters.
"What are we waiting for?" said Cj, and she ran out the door.
"Sometimes I wonder if she's family..." Harriette said with a chuckle.
I also walked out and happened to see that Zevon was giving Cj a kiss.
"Nailed it little sis!" I said softly.
Suddenly a big screen appeared in front of the gate and Mal spoke to us.
"Hello fellow VK's. Today is the day! The barrier is going down!"
The screen disappeared and everyone cheered.
Uma, Gil and Cj beckoned me to the balcony on the square and laughing I walked behind them.
"The barrier is going down! Yes!" cried Uma.
Cj laughed.
"Then I'll see Dizzy and Celia again!"
"And Mal..." I added softly.

I laughed.
"Mal! How did you get this done?"
She hugged me.
"I managed to convince Belle and Adam and they convinced Ben."
"I'm glad it worked out!"
"Yes, I thought I would never see you again, Harry."
"I also thought I'd never see you again."
She kissed me and I chuckled.
Mal looked at Cj.
"Is she... with Zevon?!"
"Yea. Crazy, isn't it?"
"How can you stand there and not flip after what he did at Evil High?"
"He shaved me bald. I know. I gave him a scar on his face. We're even."
Mal laughed.
"It was really hilarious at the time. You did such things to each other for weeks."
"Now I can't do that anymore..."
"Huh?"
"Cj would then become furious."
Mal burst out laughing and Evie walked in.
"Harry! Cj told what had happened on the island! How are you so calm?!"
Mal looked at me in amazement.
"What had happened?"
"I was just beaten up by Uma's pirate crew thanks to my current appearance."
"And you say that like it's nothing?"
"Thanks to Cj's quick thinking, you don't see any of it."
"Same case that Zevon exploded your locker and cut your arm?"
"Maybe..."
Doug came running and took Evie's hand.
"Hey!"
"Hey?"
"I've waited a long time and am super nervous but -"
"Doug, breathe and take easy."
He took a deep breath and I chuckled.
"Evie, do you want to be my wife?"
He clumsily clicked open a small box and a silver ring with red stone sparkled in it.
"Doug... Yes!"
She kissed him and I grinned.
"They really belong together..." said Mal softly.
I put my hand in my pocket and took it out just as quickly.
"I found this on the island," I muttered.
When Mal saw the pendant, tears welled up in her eyes.
"How did you find it?!"
"Cj took me to a building and there it was on the ground."
"Thank you!"
She took it and quickly put it on.

A little later Ben came running.
"Harry, can we talk for a minute?"
I looked at him with envy.
"If you have to."
"It has to be done."
I walked behind him and he sighed.
"I owe you my apologies."
"Oh?"
"I had promised you about Cj and I broke that. And I shouldn't have been so disapproving of you."
I sighed.
"Now it doesn't matter anymore. Cj can go on the island if she wants and so on. And I have to admit that I am now used to the new me..."
"I heard about conflicts on the island that came as a result?"
"That's not important."
Ben gave me a small box.
"I wanted to give that to Mal with the appropriate question, but I know that you belong together. You can use it at the right time."
I opened the box and looked into it.
"Wow... Ben, thank you. And sorry..."
"As Fairy godmother used to say, you never apologize for your feelings."
He walked away with a bowed head and I put the box in my pocket.
That was a gold ring with purple crystal. Mal would love him... That Ben just gave it to me...
