Charlotte's POV

"Lottie, don't worry. I am fine. And I will handle the problem as soon as possible. Now stop worrying." He said softly, cupping my cheeks, giving me a reassuring smile, and kissed my forehead before pulling me into his chest.

After having dinner, Nathan suggested to go to his suite and spend the night there.

He held my hand, heading us towards the exit while we were talking about my new campaign.

When we were about to approach the SUV, his bodyguard pushed us to the side, making us hide behind the car. In a second, we heard gunshots. I grabbed Nathan's suit tightly while I was shaking in fear. Meanwhile, he was holding me against his body tightly, pressing my head against his chest protectively while his heart was beating faster.

"Sir, are you okay?" His bodyguard asked him, worried as the gunshots stopped.

"Yes... Yes..." Nathan mumbled, still holding me in his arms tightly.

"We have to leave immediately." Another bodyguard said firmly as he rushed towards us.

Nathan pulled back slightly and cupped my cheeks while tears were running down my cheeks uncontrollably.

"Are you fine, Lottie?" He asked anxiously, checking me if I got hurt or not.

I nodded without managing to say anything, still in shock. He hugged me tightly, placing kisses on my hair and forehead. Then Nathan helped me to get up while I was shaking like a leaf and scooped me up in his arms as I couldn't walk properly.

"Who were they?" I asked, sobbing while he was holding my hand. Nathan hadn't released my hand since we got in his car. He ran his hand through his hair and nibbled his lower lip nervously without saying anything. "Nathan?!" I exclaimed in a loud tone without managing to control my voice.

He breathed deeply and replied firmly. "Let's talk when we arrive at the hotel." Then he ordered the bodyguard to increase the security in the hotel and at the nightclub as well as in his parents' house.

As soon as we walked into his suite, I placed my bag on the couch and said firmly, folding my arms over my chest. "I am all ears."

He breathed deeply, running his hand through his hair, and informed uneasily. "There are some guys who want to do illegal things at my nightclub, but I will not let them. So they try to convince me."

"Convince you?" I mocked. "They tried to kill you, Nathan." I stated firmly as I shuddered in fear.

"Not to kill, but scare." He corrected and heaved a loud sigh, shaking his head.

"Who are they?" I asked, worried.

"It isn't important." He mumbled, running his hand through his hair, averting his gaze, and approached the window, resting his hand in his pocket.

"Nathan!" I clenched my fist angrily as I walked towards him and grabbed his arm, forcing him to turn towards me to face me.

"Lottie, really. It is better if you don't know who they are." He said softly, looking tired.

I sighed, shaking my head. "Why don't you inform the police?"

"I can't. They warned me. And if I inform the police, it will create a mess. They... they have something in their hands to blackmail me. It was all planned." He informed, trying to hide his nervousness and worry.
