The couple months between my birthday and Heather's have been busy! Between classes, tutoring, and work, we both have our plates full. Plus, with graduation quickly approaching, we have a lot going on. We haven't spent as much time together as before, but it's only because our schedules keep us from doing so.

That's why I want to make her birthday something special; she deserves it. She has worked so hard the last few months and has even started talks with Westward about coming up with a student counseling program.

The way she explained it to me, it would be like a telephone hotline that was all anonymous, and students could call in and be connected with a staff member or another designated student and receive counseling-like services anonymously.

Since we both know what it's like to suffer in silence, this is a great way for people who aren't quite ready to open up with other services already provided to still get advice and resources until they are able to open up comfortably in person.

Everyone jumped on board with the idea, and Howard even remarked that he felt like Westward had missed out on a lot of opportunities by not having this already in place.

I unknowingly made arrangements for Heather to have the entire day off tomorrow and set to work on her birthday surprise.

I walk in to set up for my early morning art class and find that the light is still out. It's not that unusual seeing how I'm the first one here most days, but I'm not prepared for what I'm greeted by when I turn on the light.

Dylan had told me last night that he had an early and busy morning, so I went back to my room before it got late. He has been working so hard that I know he's tired, and I knew that the longer I stayed with him, the less sleep he'd get.

But I never expected that the details of his early morning would include a huge surprise party for me.

"Surprise!" Everyone screams when I flip the switch.

I'm in complete shock as I look around. The entire large room is filled with all of my favorite people here, each standing in front of a small painted canvas, and Dylan is standing in the center of the room, smiling ear to ear.
