I cursed out loud as a toy squeaked when I stepped on it by mistake.

Yet, Dwain ignored my tantrums and held onto my hand as tight as he possibly could, to firmly constrict the circulation of blood around my wrist as he grinned from ear to ear with contentment, before hauling me to the kitchen.

Dwain had the strength of a horse.

Not like I was drooling at him, but where did he get all his strength from?

Didn't he know he was holding onto a lady and not his fellow man?

I was delicate.

All ladies were delicate.

And ladies had to be treated as delicacies.

Instead, Dwain was rigid and firm in his stance as he pulled against my wrist to fight the resistance from my end.

Where was the gentleman in him for goodness sake?

His fingers locked my wrist in place as a handcuff.

Wrestling against his tall built and commendable strength was futile.

My heart was in my stomach, pulsating in stout spasms.

My mind was running wild, painting disgust on my face.

I was the portrait of doubt.

What came over me to lie about making breakfast?

Why did I create more trouble for myself?

When will this nonsense stop?

When will I stop being stupid?

Will I stop messing up the opportunities given to me to make things right?

Every second that drew us closer to the kitchen hitched my breathing.

My chest swelled as though it were an inflated balloon that needed to deflate.

When we entered the kitchen, a wave of nervousness washed over me.

There wasn't any going back on my decision as we were greeted by the sight of Dwain's entire family, already awake and enjoying their morning coffee.

I couldn't help myself from fidgeting with the straps of my nightgown.

I knew I had to stay calm and composed.

I gulped the lump at my throat, taking note of the concealed expressions on their faces as I squeezed Dwain's hand in mine as though it were a lifeline.

What should I tell them?

What dishes would they like to eat?

I shook my head.

My palms were sweaty and sticky.

"Good morning, everyone," I chirped, trying to hide the jitters.

"Good morning, lovebirds," Brielle teased while winking at me. "Sleeping in the living room, huh? I hope it was cozy!"

My mouth dropped at her response, leaving me speechless.

Oh my goodness, Brielle was nosy!

Blood rushed to my cheeks at the thought of the entire Horton family watching me spoon Dwain in his sleep.

No, no, no!

That was embarrassing.

What an embarrassment!

Jeez!

I stole a glance at Dwain who was unfazed.

"Please, say something," I yanked his arm, tugging his shirt and glaring at him with reddened cheeks which reached my ears, "tell them it was all your idea."
