The boy is bright red,

Glowing with embarrassment.

Everyone laughs,

Including you

And me because

You're a funny kid and most find that

appealing.

Then when the lesson is over,

You go to leave and

Lauren is

Right there behind you, next to you

Talking and

You're listening.

Really listening.

I've seen you walking about together,

Between lessons.

She's supposed to walk with me but

She doesn't anymore.

Jealousy is a powerful ally,

Always.

I saw your arm slip around her waist once as you

Both spoke to some of the girls with big heads,

small noses, perfect hair.

And then came that moment when it all

collapsed, I suppose.

I saw you, outside my English classroom,

Empty chairs beside me.

You thought you were being cool

Skipping class, hiding behind the English block.

But I saw you hold Lauren in your arms and then she reached up

and her lips landed gracefully on yours.

And the boy was bright red

Again.
