When teachers

Ask

Those stupid career questions

I just can't help

Rolling my eyes.

But really,

I do not know

What I want to be.

But who actually has a plan?

So many unexpected things

Happen

And surprises, good

And bad.

We have to take

These surprises as they

Come and learn to live

With them.

And that is all we do:

Try to fix

The tears and

Loose stitches in

This colourful patchwork.

What I  do know,

For my future,

Is that I want to live by the ocean.

I want to feel the sand

Feel the tall grass

That leads to the beach

Feel the salty, sea air.

Feel the ocean.

I want to be able to look

Out of my window and

See the rain

Return to the sea.

I will have a shivery thought

Of everything

Returning home

Like the chords of a song.

Usually, pieces start on one chord

And end on the same chord

After journeying through

The music.

It's more satisfying to the ear.

It makes me realise that,

We all return home in the end.

My house by the ocean will be

My home and

I'll buy a boat

And when I go

Sailing on the great

Water,

I'll remember you.
