Scarlette's POV

I had a very hard time keeping a cool, calm look on my face as I stared at the impassive Kazekage in front of me.

He wasn't Orochimaru yet, that I was sure of. This Kazekage would at least leave the Sand Village for the Chunin Exams before any dangers would befall him. But... just being in his presence made me physically sick to my stomach.

I could easily forgive the Fourth Hokage for sealing the Nine Tails inside of Naruto. He had good reason: Protecting his Village and giving power to his son that he knew he would need in the future. But the Third Kazekage... If there was a person, fictional or not, that I truly hated, it would be this man.

Ari, Violet and I stood together in front of the Sand Siblings as we faced down the unnamed Kazekage. His children, besides Gaara, were shifting nervously, eyes everywhere but on their father.

Gaara, on the other hand, had no qualms about locking gazes with the man who ruined his childhood.

"So you're the strangers Temari and Kankuro have been telling me about," the Kazekage said, leaning forward slightly with his hands clasped in front of him. Even in his own office, he wore the Blue and white Kazekage robes and wide hat, along with the white cloth that hid the lower half of his face from view.

It'd been several weeks since our arrival to Suna, and we'd been training everyday. While we were no match for the Siblings in a real fight, we could hold our own in battle. As I predicted, Ari was the Taijutsu specialist among us. But somewhat surprisingly, Vi turned out to be the best user of Ninjutsu, despite the fact that we didn't know her Chakra Nature. I found that I was fairly proficient with Genjutsu, a fact I was excited by. Genjutsu had always been my favorite weapon among the Ninja.

"That's us alright," Ari piped up eagerly. Her voice was bright and cheery, as per usual. But her eyes were piercing, intense, and dangerous. Even Vi looked slightly murderous, her reddish-brown eyes trained on the Kazekage. For the first time, I realized my sisters disliked this man as much as I did.

"And you've been training as Ninja for how long exactly?" he asked in a cool, bland tone I wanted to stab him for. Damn him. The Third Hokage would have been much more agreeable. Though, if I'm being honest, I wasn't upset that we'd ended up in Suna, of all places. Most people allied with Konoha when they were sucked into fanfics. We were different, and I enjoyed that.

"Few weeks," I muttered in answer to his question, fighting to keep my voice and attitude civil. It was a losing battle. I felt Temari and Kankuro's curious eyes on me, no doubt surprised by my shift in temperament. I was always the calm, level-headed sister who took things in stride. I was far from being the girl they'd grown used to at the moment. "We've trained almost everyday," I added, raising my eyes to meet his passive gaze. He stared back, eyes hooded thoughtfully.

"And you all wish to be Ninja of the Hidden Sand?" he inquired, shifting his gaze between each of us.

"Yup!" Violet chirped, not showing her obvious distaste for the man for the world. "Like Scar said when we first started training: We want to pay the Village back for being so nice to us!"

The Kazekage nodded, then looked over my shoulder at the anxiously waiting Siblings. Excluding Gaara, of course. "Do you three agree that they deserve to serve the Village Hidden in the Sand as Shinobi?"

"We do," Temari answered, taking a step forward to stand beside Ari. "I was personally training Arianna, and she's come far in the few weeks since we began, considering she was hopeless to start with."

Ari shot her an incredulous look, pouting. Temari snuck a small smirk in her direction as Kankuro took his place on Violet's other side.

"Violet's done pretty good too," he said, tugging slightly on the white strap fitted over his shoulder that connected to the Crow. "For a bratty pipsqueak, that is."

Violet gave her usual response to Kankuro duel-sided comments. She smiled and attacked him in a hug. He cried out with an indignant "ACK!" as they tumbled to the floor in a mess of wildly flailing limps. Ari immediately cracked up laughing, sounding over the din of Kankuro's threats and shouts. Even Temari's lips twitched into a smile. This had been a regular occurrence for the last several weeks; she'd learned to laugh about it, as had Kankuro. Eventually.

"It would be a foolish decision to allow them to roam free as anything but Suna Shinobi after our training them," Gaara said. I tensed, realizing he now stood beside me. "They'd be a danger to the Village."

I swallowed down the lump threatening to form in my throat, thinking about the many attempts on Gaara's life because he'd been deemed a "danger to the Village".

"I see," said the Kazekage, in an agonizingly slow voice. He unfolded his hands and sat back in his chair as he continued to stare at my sisters and I. "Well then, I suppose the decision is already made then. Gaara, kill them."

Ari's POV

You could have heard a mouse fart, the room became so deathly silent.

He wanted Gaara... to kill us?

Even the slightly emo redhead seemed taken aback by that order.

"F-Father!" Temari and Kankuro cried out after a moment of pure shock. I was getting ready to bust through a window and take my chances fleeing the Village when the Kazekage let out a deep, and unexpected chuckle.

"I'm only joking," he said, raising a hand in a placating gesture. I heard Scarlette mutter under her breath, "Sick sense of humor.... Bastard!"

I seriously agreed with her, prepared to kick this asshole's Kazekage ass with what I called the Sand Hurricane. I stole it from Lee, with slight variation on the name. Shh! Temari thought I was a genius!

"That wasn't funny in the least, Lord Kazekage," Scar said, just shy of spitting the words at him. She crossed her arms over her chest, gold-flecked eyes glinting dangerously. Scar rarely became angry but when she did.... NIGHTMARES!

He only chuckled again, and I realized my teeth had begun to grind together in a unconscious effort to keep myself from shouting every vile curse word I knew at him. "I'm very sorry," he said. "I couldn't resist. Of course you can become Sand Shinobi. If my own children trust you, then so do I." He reached into a drawer of his desk and pulled out three headbands, each bearing the hourglass-like symbol of the Sand.

I stalked over to his desk and snatched up the headbands. And without another word, I stormed from his office with my sisters in tow. We walked all the way back to the Siblings' home, not even bothering to check if they were following.

"I'm almost glad Orochimaru steals his face," I muttered viciously, fingers tightening around the three forehead protectors trapped in my hand. "Pedo Snake finally did something right!"

Scar shook her head, and I noticed that her cheeks were tinted red from anger. I also saw the crescent-shaped marks on her palms as she reached for a headband. Not attacking the Kazekage had been a real challenge for my sister.

Scar tied the headband around her neck loosely, while Vi chose to wear it like a belt. I faintly remembered that that was how Lee wore his as I tied my own Suna headband around my right arm. Each headband had black cloth instead of the blue I was expecting. Not that I was complaining. We looked badass with black headbands.

I saw Violet smiling like nothing had happened, and nudged her side with my elbow. She rubbed the spot roughly, pouting at me cutely. "How are you not upset?" I demanded, ignoring her puppy-dog look. Scar was immune; I wasn't.

"Oh!" she chirped, her smile turning up a few watts. "He was joking, so it's alright!"

I anime fell at that. Then shot to my feet when I realized what I'd just done. Sweat dropping, anime falling... I was in Heaven!

"Well, the Chunin Exams should be coming up soon," Scar noted, playing with her headband, letting it catch the light. "We won't have to deal with him much longer." It was obvious to me, and to Violet too, that Scarlette hated the Kazekage the most out of the three of us. But I didn't say anything. Mostly because Kankuro and Temari finally caught up to us and I didn't want to sound like a freak. Well, more of a freak.

"Are you guys alright?" Temari asked, flicking worried glances between the three of us. I grinned wildly. "Course we are!" I said with a laugh. "We're finally Suna Ninja! We're Genin! How could we NOT be awesome right now?"

They sweat dropped. "But our Father..."

"Made an inappropriate joke," Scar finished shortly, hands moving to tug at the zipper of her hoodie. "It's nothing to worry over," she added. "I'm sure it'll be the least of our worries now that we've become official members of Suna, correct?"

They nodded slowly, and Scar smiled unexpectedly. "You don't need to fret so much over us," she said. "The Kazekage is nothing we can't handle, I assure you."

"If you're sure..." Temari said uncertainly. Violet giggled and wrapped her arms around Temari in a hug that she seriously wasn't prepared for. "I knew you'd love us!" she announced loudly, and I broke out into a grin. "That's why you care so much!"

"You too, Puppet Boy!" I shouted, diving at Kankuro in a flying hug. He shoved me away at the last second and I tasted dirt. Whoa, Suna dirt wasn't half bad. I could see why worms ate this stuff!

"Yeah well, you've grown on us," Kankuro admitted noncommittally, crossing his arms. Scar just shook her head, amused. She'd finally stopped apologizing for us for once in her life. Maybe because she finally found a group of people who didn't ASK for the apologies.

"Even Gaara seems to... not hate you," Temari added awkwardly, an uneasy smile on her face. I pushed myself to my feet and swung an arm around Scar's shoulders, grinning like a fool.

"Hell yes!" I exclaimed, laughing. "He definitely likes us, cause Scar here absolutely l--"

I was cut off when she pressed a kunai to my throat.

"You're my sister, Ari," she said mildly. "I love you. But finish that sentence and your days as a Suna Ninja end before they begin."

I smiled sheepishly and backed away, holding my hands up in mock surrender.

"Anyway," Kankuro said, rolling his eyes at our antics. "We've decided that you can come with the three of us to Konoha. For the Chunin Exams. You won't be participating but you can--"

His words stopped short when Violet and I launched ourselves at him and glomped him. For the second time in the space of a half hour, he fell to the ground from the power of a teenage girl's hug.

"We very much appreciate your offer," Scar said to Temari, completely ignoring the scene beside her. "It'll be a tremendously great experience for us to witness how other Villages act, now that we live as Ninja instead of ordinary citizens."

"Just our thinking, Scarlette," Temari said, beginning to walk beside our sister as she headed for the house. I caught a swish of sand on the roof and knew Gaara was watching, like always.

"TEMARI! DON'T LEAVE ME! GET THESE FREAKS OFF ME!!" Kankuro shouted in vain, words smothered by Violet and I.

"WE LOVE YOU TOO, KITTY!!" Vi and I shouted at the top of our lungs.

Several passersby sweat dropped at our display and quickly hurried off to who knows where. That happened A LOT when Vi and I went around Suna without Scarlette.

But I couldn't have cared less about the obviously worried looks (clearly, they feared for my nonexistent sanity). I was going to meet KIBA! And I could practically hear Violet fangirl screaming, "ROCK LEE! MY YOUTHFUL LOVE!!"

She'd shouted that in her sleep once. Gave me a heart attack!
