Chapter 18

I shot my head up to look at the person who had spoken. Wide eyed I stared into a pair of beautiful blue eyes.

"Niall?"

"Hey" he replied smiling. I processed everything and before I knew it I was over the counter embracing him in a giant hug.

"What are you doing here!?"

"Well I came to get some coffee for me and the lads, and here you are" he replied pulling away just enough to look at me and smile.

"The boys are here to? Where?"

"They're back at my flat waiting for the coffee. Want to come and say hi?" He asks as a hint of hope shines in his eyes.

"I can't, my shift doesn't end till 3" I reply.

"It's fine go I'll cover for you" said Luke coming back out of the closet.

"Luke that wouldn't be fa" I begin before he cuts me off.

"Go it's fine. You finally have the chance to see then again. Don't let it pass." He says. I walk up to him and pull him into a hug.

Since I've started working here we've become really good friends. I haven't really been out yet so he's pretty much my only friend and we are always covering for each other.

"Thanks Luke. I owe you one" I say pulling away and turning back to Niall. "Looks like I can go" I say smiling. He replies with a genuine smile that reached his eyes.

I take off my apron and walk towards the door but stop when I noticed Niall is still standing in the spot I'd left him.

"Um Niall?" I ask.

"Well I did come for drinks, I think the boys may be upset if I come back empty handed" he replies.

"Oh! Right" I say walking back over the counter. "What can I get for you sir?" I ask smiling.

He gives me the orders and I begin making the drinks.

"You came to Starbucks and all except two of the orders are tea" I ask laughing. " don't people usually come to Starbucks for coffee?" I say smiling while finishing up the drinks.

"Hey it's not my fault we like tea" he says shrugging his arms. I smile and hand him the finished drinks.

"Thanks again Luke!" I say before exiting the Starbucks.

"No problem babe" he replies smiling.

We exit and Niall leeds me to the car. The drive to his flat is quiet but not at all awkward. Its a good quiet. After a few minutes he breaks the silence.

"Why haven't you kept in touch?" He asks keeping his eyes on the road. I turn to look at him surprised by his question. I wasn't expecting him to ask. He glances at me through the side if his eye waiting for my answer.

"Uh I ...um" I can't find the words to explain. We come to a red light and he turns to look at me expectantly.

"Well... you guys were going to go back to your lives... and I was gunna start mine... and I didn't want to get in the way of your work... I didn't want to be a distraction... A burden " I finally say not wanting to look at him. He'll probably thank me and be glad I did what I did, if I would've kept in touch I would've distracted them and ruined everything.

I feel him place his hand on my cheek turning my face to look at him.

"You are not a distraction to our work Brooke, and you are certainly not getting in the way of anything. We've all been anxiously waiting for you to call but you never did. We... I thought you didn't want to see us again" he says. A hint of pain shining in his eyes.
