Troubled sister

Chapter 1

"Did you do your homework hailey?" Drew asks poking his head in the break room
"Yes dr. Alister" I say jokingly and he gives me a smirk and rolls his eyes
I finish eating the bag of chips I got out the vending machine and go outside.
I take a step out of the break room and am almost trampled by tc.
"Watch out hailey" he says rushing a hospital bed to the OR.
"Sorry T!" I yell
"Yo hailey!" I hear Kenny yell
"Hey ken" I say going over to him at the front desk
"You staying tonight?" He asks
"Yeah. Rick isn't home and I don't wanna stay the night alone" I say
"Okay then you can run these to Jordan" he says
"That's what I'm here for" I say grabbing the folders
"Trauma two" he says and I nod
"Here you go jor" I say handing her the folders
"Thank you hailey" she says taking them
I look at the guy on the bed. I see a knife going through his hand.
"Woah man what happened to you?" I ask
"Playing a silly game" he says in pain
"Fruit ninja huh?" I say and he looks down
"Yeah" he says embarrassed
"Next time leave it to the phone" I say and smirk
"You got it" he says with a smile
I shake my head and go to the front desk.
"Need any help holly?" I ask
Ever since my brother adopted me I've spent mostly every night here with him. I came as much as I could when I was with my parents also. I know a lot more medical things than most people starting in medical school. My knowledge helps me during times of mass casualties; when the er is packed. I can help the minor cases and do little stitches. Usually I help with paperwork and checking up on patients.
"Can you bring this x-ray to your brother in trauma one?" She asks handing me the X-ray
"Sure thing hol" I say
I go over to the curtain and open it.
"Holy cow" I say seeing a kids arm completely bent the way it shouldn't be.
"Trampoline" my brother says taking the X-ray from me
"Ahhh" I say nodding my head
I leave and after a while of helping with paper work I go to the break room.
I sit at a table and play on my phone.
"Hello there" I hear and look up
I see tc sitting next to me.
"Hey" I say giving him a smile.
"What's up?" He asks opening a bag of chips
"Bored" I say
"How can you be bored at a hospital?" He asks
"I'm here every night" I say
"Me too" he says taking a sip of his coffee
"This is your job, of course you have too" I say
"Don't you have school in the morning?" He asks
"Eh" I say taking one of his chips
"What do you mean by eh?" He asks moving the bag from out of my reach
"I never get there on time. I hate school" I say
"Well you gotta go to school" he says
"No duh. I just want to do online school" I say
"Good luck with that" he says
"It'd be good for me. I have all these panic attacks and flashbacks; I think it would do me good" I say
"That's something to ask your brother" he says as his pager beeps
"Yeah" I say
"I gotta go. Bye little one" he says kissing the top of my head
"By uncle t" I say and he leaves

*3 in the morning*

I can't sleep. No sleep has become a normal thing in my life. I get up off the bed and go into the break room. I'm lucky this hospital has a room for the doctors to sleep in. I look out the break room window and see drew at the front desk looking through a patients file. I guess it's a good enough time to ask him.
