Chapter 6 September 2011 (Jessalynn's 2nd year of teaching)

I was back to day 1 again. It’s a new school year, new people, new students, fresh start. With that in mind, I get dressed. Wearing black dress pants, and a cute blouse, I step out of my closet. I grab my comfortable dress shoes and leave the house. I learned a long time ago to make sure to wear comfortable clothes.

Some of the kids were more than a little energetic. I learned that the hard way. Something I vowed never to mention again.

I got to school and made my way in. We teachers have a mini meeting before school started. I walk into the teachers’ lounge to see most teachers already there.

Less than 30 seconds after I walked in did the door open behind me, and the last few teachers piled in.

The meeting’s quick. We address the school rules and regulations. We all get a chance to meet new teachers and catch up with each other.

After the meeting, I go into my classroom and check my planner. I am so excited. I love working with kids. They brighten my day. Honestly, I can’t wait until my own kids, but I can’t say I want kids with Jake right now or ever.

Today, we are going to be introducing ourselves and some story time. I go to the book rack and pick out some stories. By the time I’m done, some parents are here.

I put the stories on my desk and walk towards the kids.

“Hi, I’m Miss Tate, and you would be…” I bent down to ask the little boy who was shyly hiding behind his mother.

“Liam,” he muttered.

“Liam’s a little shy. I’m scared to leave him alone. My name is Sasha by the way,” his mother told me.

I smiled reassuringly at her, “Hey Liam, I have a bunch of toy cars,” I told him holding my hand out.

Slowly, he brought his hand into mine and I lead him to the cars. Just as he started playing, I heard the door open.

Again, I went and introduced myself to the little boy with his dad.

I continue this time and time over. Some kids were excited, while others, not so much.

One little boy didn’t even wait for me to talk to him. He ran straight for the puzzles, while a little girl was almost bawling her eyes out and wouldn’t let her mother go.

Soon the room was buzzing with excitement. All the kids were by the carpet trying to fix together puzzles except for Liam, who was playing with cars.

I was just about to ask him if he wanted to try a puzzle, when the door opened again.

I turned to greet them, “Hi, I’m Miss Tate-“

“Hi Miss Tate, my name is Rosa-Lynn. You can call me Rosa if you want. This is Lucy, my babysitter. Can I go play?” she asked in one breath.

Yes sweetie, go ahead. There are puzzles on the carpet." Much to my surprise, she ran straight to Liam.

"I'm sorry, she's very talkative. Well, her father will pick her up from school, though he may be five minutes late since it's his first day at work," Lisa told me.

The day passed by in a blur and before I knew it, the kids were going home. Soon enough, Rosa-Lynn was the only one left.

The door finally opened, as I was putting the last of my things in my bag while keeping an eye on Rosa-Lynn who was trying to help clean.

"DADDY!" She screamed running past me to the door.

I smiled and turn to meet her dad. Time seemed to stop as I looked into the face of the one person I thought I would never have to face again.

I'll upload soon hopefully
