I took a deep breath in and let it out with a small huff. I read the information the page again before looking through his file in hopes that my uncle would have put it there and not leave me hanging.

I shifted a bit away from him, my side starting to ache where the Frithen had scratched me all of those years ago.

"You moved," Xavier said, looking at me. His voice was void of any emotion. "Why?"

"My side started to act up," I replied, trying to relieve some of the tension from it. I started to skim over the file again, hoping that I wasn't missing anything. "It happens some days. It's where the Frithen had scratched me."

"Oh."

I took a deep breath in and let it out, slowly, before moving closer to him when the pain subsided. I still looked at his file, trying to find anything as to why he had killed his mate.

Did this change my view on him?

No.

Xavier was a great guy, someone that cared about others, even with his cold exterior and some anger outbursts that he was able to get in control with, even though he had help.

Could there have been something wrong with his mate?

Probably.

Am I going to complain, yell, or scream at him because he killed his mate?

No.

Did I feel relieved that she was gone?

Well... maybe... yes. It meant that he was free, and I didn't have to fight for him over someone that could have possibly been a complete and total bitch.

"You fucking motherfucker," I muttered under my breath after the third time of reading over his file, trying to see if he had hidden the information in between the lines. However, I could find nothing about Xavier's past mate. "What did you do?"

Xavier tensed and looked at me again. His heartbeat started to quicken, and I was sure it was because I had closed the folder roughly and tossed it in front of me before moving a hand through my hair.

"I am sorry," I said, closing my eyes and trying to curb the annoyance and anger that I felt. I took in a deep breath and let it out before opening my eyes again.

I twisted my body until I was looking at him and offered him a tight-lipped smile. "My uncle decided to do something stupid like hiding information from me. I am not annoyed or mad at you."

"What did he hide?" he asked, his voice different. He looked rather emotionless, but I could tell that he was afraid, very afraid.

I looked away from him and took his file into my hands again. I pulled the first page out and handed it to him, noticing his shaking hands.

Xavier's face went blank as he moved the sheet down and stared at me. He was trying to keep his emotions in check, but I could tell that he was having a million thoughts in his head.

I twisted my body until I was facing him head on and made sure that my knees were touching his thigh. I wanted him to know that I didn't fear him. I still trusted him with my life and my son's. "You had a mate."
