THE MODERN WORLD

AZEALA LAQUI

-

New year, new me, I thought as I sipped the sparkling wine out of the crusted glass. My eyes rested on the antique clock placed on top of the fireplace. I watched the arms strike every second, like a heartbeat but slower. It was the fascination that coursed through me. Fascination on how the human had to depend its life on the movement of a fist-like thing. Having to work so hard, just to live and for that split second, I almost felt bad for taking so many lives, regardless of whether or not it was in the pursuit of good.

But then as the clock struck twelve and the sound of fireworks sounded outside, all regret vanished.

"New me, right," I muttered another spot of wine tingling on my tongue as the front door flew open.

And that is a small taster of our modern world protagonist, beautiful don't you think :)
